Position Summary:
Trust for Public Land's Philanthropy Department seeks a part-time Grant Writer (up to 50 hours per month) to produce powerful and persuasive grant proposals and reports in response to invitations from foundations and corporations supporting TPL, with a focus on TPL's work throughout the state of California.
The Grant Writer supports TPL through writing and responding to grant applications and reporting on grants received. The Grant Writer will generate high-quality grant proposals, grant renewals, and grant reports in response to solicitations consistent with all TPL policies and procedures and the requirements and guidelines of the funding entities. Essential Functions:
  • Write, revise, and edit (without the use of AI) grant proposals, grant renewals, and grant reports for foundations and corporations interested in supporting TPL, with a focus on TPL's work in California. (75%)
  • Work with relationship managers and project and program staff to conceptualize and refine written materials. (10%)
  • Manage projects from inception to delivery. (10%)
  • Help to ensure consistent messaging. (5%)
Qualifications:
  • Skilled grant writer with a background in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Ability to conceptualize and communicate persuasive materials for foundation and corporation funders.
  • Skilled at gathering and consolidating information from a variety of sources (both people and written material) to create cohesive and compelling written pieces.
  • Ability to write succinctly, following word and character count requirements.
  • Ability to project manage and function effectively as a member of a team, ensuring close coordination and integration with other staff members.
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines and deliverables with quick turnarounds.
  • Experience and proficiency using Microsoft 365.
  • Experience working in a Customer Relations Management (CRM) database a plus.
  • Interest in philanthropy.
  • Strong commitment to TPL's shared values (Belonging, Creativity, Collaboration, Impact, and Hope) to effectively work across the organization.
Compensation:
Trust for Public Land is a hybrid work environment, and this role will ideally be located near a Trust for Public Land office but can also be done remotely. As a temporary, part-time employee, you may be eligible for sick pay and a personal day, prorated for hours worked. We also offer a 403(b)-retirement plan, currently with an up to 7% company match. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience; the anticipated hiring range for this position is $40-$50/hr. The expected duration of this temporary role is 1 year with the ability to be extended if business needs require.
Trust for Public Land's active goal is to be an inclusive and equitable place to work and build community. As the organization actively works to eliminate racial and other disparities it welcomes candidates with diverse backgrounds and/or multicultural skillsets. We are open to the possibility that a great candidate for this job may not precisely meet all the above criteria; if you believe you are the right person for this job and can persuasively make that case, we encourage you to apply.
