Professional notaries are individuals authorized by the state to serve as impartial witnesses during the signing of important documents. Their primary role is to verify the identity of signers, ensure all parties are signing voluntarily, and help prevent fraud. Notaries commonly handle documents like affidavits, deeds, powers of attorney, and loan documents. They are required to follow specific state laws and may need to pass an exam or background check to obtain their commission.

What other jobs can you do as a professional notary?

A professional notary can often expand their career by offering services such as loan signing agent, mobile notary, or signing agent, which involve verifying identities and witnessing signatures for real estate transactions, legal documents, and financial agreements. These roles typically require certification, good organizational skills, and the ability to work flexible hours. Some notaries also transition into roles in legal support, document preparation, or escrow services.
