Job description

Our California-based personal injury firm is seeking a Pre-Litigation Attorney to lead and elevate our pre-litigation settlement operation. This is a key leadership role for an attorney who excels at case valuation, settlement strategy, and client communication—and who enjoys building and managing a high-performing team.

This position is ideal for a PI attorney who wants meaningful responsibility, autonomy, and impact, without the grind of constant court appearances.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the pre-litigation settlement team, including oversight of settlement negotiations and workflow
  • Evaluate, value, and negotiate personal injury cases (primarily motor vehicle accidents) from intake through settlement
  • Serve as the escalation point for client concerns, including dissatisfied or high-touch clients, and resolve issues with professionalism and confidence
  • Develop settlement strategies to maximize results while keeping cases moving efficiently
  • Hire, train, and mentor pre-litigation staff and junior team members
  • Improve systems and processes within pre-litigation to enhance client experience, efficiency, and results
  • Collaborate closely with litigation attorneys to ensure clean handoffs when cases do not resolve pre-suit

What We’re Looking For

  • A proactive problem-solver who takes ownership and doesn’t wait to be told what needs fixing
  • A strong negotiator who understands both case value and insurer psychology
  • A calm, confident communicator who can de-escalate difficult client situations and build trust
  • A leader and mentor who enjoys training and developing people—not just managing files

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately evaluate and value pre-litigation PI cases
  • Proven experience handling settlement negotiations with insurance carriers
  • Strong client-facing skills, including managing expectations and difficult conversations
  • Ability to hire, train, and onboard new team members effectively
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable working in a remote-first environment

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of personal injury pre-litigation experience at a mid-size or large PI firm
  • Active California Bar license (required)
  • Experience working with modern PI case-management systems (Filevine or similar a plus)
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

Why This Role

  • Leadership position with real authority and influence
  • No court appearances—focus on strategy, negotiation, and results
  • Opportunity to build and shape a team, not just manage a desk
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and performance
  • Remote flexibility with a firm that values efficiency, accountability, and professionalism
