Job description

Overview
We are seeking a PBX Operator, also referred to as a Switchboard Operator or Communication Operator in our communications department. The PBX Operator is responsible for answering the switchboard and overhead pages, greeting visitors, and directing them to the appropriate departments, while also monitoring hospital alarms and maintaining knowledge of the policies and procedures for all hospital emergency codes.
Shift's Available: Mornings, Mids, and Nights (Flexible to work all shifts)
Employment Type: Part-time
Hours: 12 hour shifts
Location: Harlingen Medical Center - Harlingen, Texas

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):
  • Answer and route incoming calls to the appropriate hospital departments, physicians, or staff promptly and courteously
  • Assist visitors and callers by providing information or directing them to the appropriate contacts, and promptly handle emergency calls by connecting them to response teams or on-call personnel
  • Monitor and maintain the telephone system by reporting malfunctions to technical support and keeping accurate call logs and messages for staff and departments
  • Support communication during hospital emergencies or critical events by coordinating calls and information flow
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information

Qualifications
Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:
Education and Work Experience
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires).
  2. Previous PBX experience preferred.
  3. Previous experience in office or receptionist.
  4. Effective written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
  6. Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  7. Customer Services experience preferred.
