Payment Systems Engineer

Location:Lincolnshire, IL (Hybrid) 3 Days On-site

About the Role

We're building a modern, scalableenterprise payments platformto support seamless transactions across in-store POS, e-commerce, mobile, kiosk, and call center channels.

As aPayment Systems Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling payment capabilities. You'll work closely with Product, Architecture, and other engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing payment solutions.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving real-world problems, working with external payment providers, and shipping production-ready systems.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development & Integrations

  • Design, build, and maintainpayment services and APIsusing C# and .NET/.NET Core

  • Integrate withpayment processors, gateways, acquiring banks, and third-party providers

  • Support integrations withdigital wallets(Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay) and alternative payment methods

  • Contribute to building apayment abstraction layerthat simplifies multi-provider integrations

  • Implement payment flows includingauthorization, capture, settlement, refunds, and chargebacks

Payments Functionality & Features

  • Develop and enhance capabilities such aspayment routing, retry logic, and failover handling

  • Supportcard-present and card-not-presentpayment flows (POS, e-commerce, mobile)

  • Work onmPOS, in-app payments, hosted payment pages, and Text-to-Pay solutions

  • Implement and maintain integrations usingREST APIs, webhooks, and other payment protocols

Reliability & Operations

  • Monitor and troubleshootpayment transactions and production issues

  • Improve system performance, scalability, andtransaction success rates

  • Participate inincident response and root cause analysis, implementing fixes and improvements

  • Contribute to observability through logging, metrics, and alerting

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Partner with Product and Architecture teams totranslate requirements into technical solutions

  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and code reviews

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

  • Continuously improve development practices, tooling, and processes

Required Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of software engineering experience

  • Strong proficiency inC# and .NET/.NET Core

  • Experience building and consumingRESTful APIs

  • Hands-on experience integrating withthird-party systems or APIs

  • Familiarity withpayment systems or financial transactions

  • Understanding ofsecure coding practices and data protection

  • Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug production issues

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience withpayment gateways, processors, or POS systems

  • Familiarity withpayment conceptssuch as EMV, tokenization, 3DS, and PCI-DSS

  • Experience withevent-driven systems or messaging platforms(Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus)

  • Exposure tocloud platforms(Azure, AWS, or GCP)

  • Experience withdigital wallets and mobile payments

  • Familiarity withalternative payment methods(ACH, BNPL, real-time payments)

  • Experience working inAgile/Scrum environments(Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.)

The pay range for this role considers several factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Camping World, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the factors stated. A reasonable estimate of the current range is listed below.

Pay Range:

$111,100.00-$170,300.00 Annual
