Job description

Position Summary

Saint Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Part-Time
Bookkeeper to manage the parish's weekly financial processing and monthly reconciliations for both
parish operations and the capital campaign. This role focuses on transactional bookkeeping,
contribution processing, payables, payroll coordination, and organized record-keeping. The
Archdiocese of New Orleans Accounting Office provides higher-level accounting oversight,
compliance guidance, and financial reporting support. The Bookkeeper works closely with the
Pastor, parish staff, and archdiocesan contacts to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and financial
integrity.

Weekly Responsibilities

Parish Income Processing
* Record parish collections and donations in QuickBooks
* Batch and input contributions into ParishSoft
* Maintain organized contribution records

Capital Campaign Income Processing
* Receive and process campaign checks
* Record and track pledges and payments
* Maintain accurate donor records
* Coordinate reporting with campaign consultants and/or Catholic Community Foundation

Accounts Payable
* Process vendor invoices
* Prepare and cut checks
* Make copies of checks and supporting documentation
* Mail payments
* Maintain organized filing system

Twice-Monthly Responsibilities
* Coordinate payroll information with the Archdiocese of New Orleans
* Ensure employee payroll information is accurate and current
* Maintain payroll documentation

Monthly Responsibilities
* Close books at end of month
* Reconcile bank statements and income activity
* Ensure QuickBooks and ParishSoft records align
* Reconcile campaign reports monthly
* Assist the Pastor with preparation of financial information for Finance Council meetings

Qualifications
* Bookkeeping and/or accounting experience
* Proficiency with QuickBooks (or equivalent)
* Familiarity with or able to quickly learn ParishSoft and eCatholic
* Familiarity with basic budgeting processes
* Experience assisting with financial reporting preferred
* Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
* Dependable and self-motivated
* Compliant with Archdiocese of New Orleans Safe Environment

Work Schedule
* 15–20 hours per week
* Weekly rhythm structured around income processing and payables
* Additional time required at month-end for reconciliation
* Flexible within parish office hours

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Pastor and collaborates with the Archdiocese Accounting Office.
