Director, Football Cities - Columbus, Ohio

The Event and Venue Management (EVM) teamย is responsible forย leading the integrated operational planningย and operationsย at the venue level for all competitionย venues as well asย some non-competition venues.ย At Games Time, the Event and Venue Management team leads and manages the event teams at venues, event delivery, venue communication, and venue issue resolution.ย 

Theย Footballย Cityย Directorย (FCD)ย willย be responsible forย leading the operational planning and deliveryย ofย anย Olympic Gamesย venueย and corresponding non-competitionย venuesย in their assigned city.ย They will also driveย cross-functional operational integration and leadย aย venue team at Games-time. The role will require significant stakeholder management and majorย large-scaleย venue planning and operational delivery experience.ย 

This role reportsย to theย Head ofย Footballย Venues &ย Sports.ย ย Local candidates inย theย six (6) remote cities will be given priority consideration:ย  NYC, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, Sanย Joseย and San Diego.ย 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate cross-functionally,ย leadย the development, optimization, and delivery of venue-based Event Operations plans forย theย venue.ย 
  • Lead the venue team to achieveย objectives, venue readiness, and deliverables to stakeholders, and venue owner / operator.ย ย ย 
  • Build strong, productive, and respectful relationships withย theย venue partner,ย related stakeholdersย and local government agenciesย and serve as theย day-to-day venueย leadershipย contact.ย 
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure an efficient and effective engagement process with venue partners including managing meeting cadence, stakeholder site visits, venue planning, and operational readiness.ย 
  • Work closely withย the venue infrastructure and other technical teams to track deliverables.ย ย 
  • Manage venueย serviceย levels,ย identifyย risks, developing risk mitigation strategies, andย leveragingย opportunities for creating efficiencies and savings.ย 
  • Hire, train, motivate, and leadย aย diverse, high-performing venue team capable of developing and executing venue operations plans efficiently and effectively.ย 
  • Coordinateย with venue owners and local authorities to manage the Venue Use Agreement (VUA), ensuring compliance with contractualย terms and operational requirements.ย ย 
  • Prepare and deliver written and oral reports on venue agreement and operating planning status to senior leaders and other stakeholders as requiredย including tracking,ย reportingย and solving issuesย at all phases of the project (planning and operational).ย 
  • Manage venue operations collaborating with all stakeholders including athletes, workforce, spectators, partners, and media focusing on a comprehensive, inclusive, fully accessible venue.ย 
  • Establishย working relationships and coordinate activities with local authorities and security representativesย specific to the venue andย the venue approach.ย ย 
  • Lead Functional Areas to createย the Eventย Operationsย Planย andย otherย tools for planning andย deliveryย for not just the competition venue but also training sites, stakeholderย hotelsย andย airport.ย 
  • Champion and embed the LA28 values and behaviors into allย facetsย of engagement,ย planningย and delivery.ย ย 
Background & Requirements:
  • Minimum8+ย years of experienceworkingin relevantrolesin the sports and/orevent managementindustry,ย workingon major Games delivery,ormajor event properties,or eventproductioncompanies.ย 
  • Proventrack recordof leadingtheplanning and delivery of large-scale, complex event operations across multiple project phases including planning, readiness, andoperation.
  • PastGames orย international football (soccer)ย experienceis aplus
  • Skillworking with executives and building cross-functional partnershipsand influencing stakeholders across multiple functionalareas
  • Experience building and leading diverse, high-performingteams
  • Negotiation skills and diplomacy in balancing competing interests
  • Experience working within a complex, cross-functionalorganization
  • Strong communicationskills both written and oral

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • The positionย willย beย located inย one of the six (6) remote citiesย with in-person attendanceย requiredย (NYC, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San Jose, San Diego).ย 
  • The majority ofย work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipmentย 
  • Ability to travel occasionally to different venues across theย assigned marketย andย possiblyย toย Los Angelesย and other remote football cities.ย ย 

The annual base salary range for this position is $100,800.00-$145,600.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.
