Work Schedule: 10 Month
Position Summary
The goal of the Intervention Specialist is to provide direct support and intervention to students in grades K-5 who need additional support in reading, writing, and/or mathematics and to provide leadership, collaboration, and support to teachers towards designing and implementing intervention strategies. Within the context of Dual Language, the interventionist ensures that students are grade level proficient (or make substantial growth towards grade level proficiency) in English and Spanish content standards.
Essential Duties
  • Provide identified students with evidence based, English and Spanish content instruction to accelerate growth.
  • Provides small group instruction or interventions, collaboratively in the classroom or in a separate setting, to non proficient or fragile students in reading, writing, and/or mathematics using research-based models
  • Implement district identified intervention programs, intervention frameworks, and/or strategies and resources.
  • Create an engaging classroom environment that includes whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on ongoing formative assessment data.
  • Serve on school based MTSS Team to analyze data, support plan development, and monitor interventions.
  • Administer district identified assessments as scheduled and maintain electronic data files
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to scaffold and support students' access to grade level content; provide classroom teachers with support for identifying and implementing student interventions.
  • Monitors formative and summative student assessments to plan instructional programming to meet the needs of students served
  • Collaborates with school administration to determine student service plans/schedules.
  • Attend school and district meetings as appropriate; stay current with professional literature, latest research, and best practices.
  • Participate in school based PLC work as determined by building administrators.
  • Adhere to district curriculum and instruction guidelines and framework to ensure fidelity of implementation.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Valid North Carolina Professional Educator's teaching license required
  • 3+ years of success teaching as an elementary classroom teacher
  • Fluency in speaking, reading and writing the Spanish language required
  • Master's Degree or advanced studies in curriculum and instruction, reading, mathematics, science or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
  • Other qualifications that are acceptable to the Board of Education

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
