Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Launched in 2013, the Department of Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is the first new science department in the College of Arts and Sciences in nearly 40 years. APS lives in the collaborative space between science and engineering, combining knowledge and discovery with an engineering mindset, team-based science, and entrepreneurship to address real-world problems. Organized around 'Ideas to Impacts,' the department unites with campus themes in health, water and energy to help Carolina continue to be a leader in science innovation and the application of knowledge. APS has united numerous scientific entities on campus to further its mission of finding interdisciplinary solutions to real-world problems. Its newest endeavor, BeAM (Be A Maker), is a university-wide initiative that incorporates Making into research, education, and entrepreneurship. BeAM is comprised of several spaces, including a makerspace in Hanes Art Center, Carmichael Residence Hall, and a 3,400 square foot Makerspace in Murray Hall, all of which serve the entire UNC community.
Position Summary
* Working with HR to support faculty in routing SHRA personnel processing functions which include actions through RASR to CASBO for processing by entering and submitting RASR information for HR.
* Serve as the APS Parking Coordinator and serve as the Access Request Coordinator.
* Maintain APS information for the Tar Heel Mission Ready database. Maintain APS listservs.
* Support office workflow. Update APS phone directory. Logistical support for APS events: colloquium series with invited speakers, faculty events and department research talks/event.
* Work closely with external speakers/faculty to ensure that their travel and campus agenda is accurate. Assisting with booking catering, performing room setups and breakdowns, etc.
* Coordinate with APS communications personnel to update the APS website with event information and assist with communications materials, as needed.
* Manage the purchase of all major department equipment and supplies for the office. Support APS Business Manager as directed when needed or as other duties might be assigned.
* Assist with other administrative/office support duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences
-Coursework in HR, Business or a related discipline.
-Detail-oriented with ability to review, examine, or prepare documents.
-Ability to communicate information to faculty and staff.
-Strong commitment to teamwork, information sharing and collaboration.
