Job description

The Online Adjunct Nursing Faculty member engages in teaching and learning activities according to their area of academic expertise. The faculty member guides and directs student learning in the online environment within the framework of assigned courses and programs to promote achievement of course and program outcomes. Faculty actively foster a supportive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success, critical thinking, and professional growth. The faculty member works collaboratively with academic leadership, support services, and other college personnel to provide high-quality educational experiences that reflect current evidence-based practices and disciplinary standards.

Required Qualifications:

For Faculty Teaching Nursing Courses

Earned master's degree or higher in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.

Current unencumbered RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligibility for Virginia licensure.

Minimum of three years of professional nursing experience.

Experience teaching, learning, or facilitating instruction in an online environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

Earned doctoral degree in the teaching discipline or related field and/or earned doctoral degree in the nursing discipline.

Previous online teaching experience in higher education.

Specialty certification or professional credentials relevant to the discipline.

Knowledge of learning management systems and educational technologies.

Understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and evidence-based teaching practices.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other instructional technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilitates student learning in accordance with course outcomes, program outcomes, and institutional expectations.

Implements a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs and course content.

Identifies and responds to diverse learning styles, backgrounds, and educational needs.

Promotes an inclusive learning environment that values diversity and supports student success.

Uses assessment, evaluation, and available data to enhance teaching effectiveness and student outcomes.

Provides timely, constructive, and meaningful feedback to students.

Maintains accurate student records and submits required documentation to the Academic Director, Registrar, or designee in a timely manner.

Maintains current knowledge of content within the assigned discipline and incorporates current evidence, trends, and best practices into instruction.

Creates opportunities for learners to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

Participates in required faculty development and training activities.

Maintains professional credentials, certifications, licensure, or qualifications appropriate to the assigned discipline.

Scholarship and Professional Development

Incorporates current literature and evidence-based practices into teaching and evaluation methods.

Participates in professional development activities to maintain expertise in the discipline and online teaching practices.

Demonstrates scholarly and professional engagement appropriate to the faculty role.
