Teacher/Professional - Elementary - STEM Teacher
Grades PK-3, 5-6

ROLE AND PURPOSE:
  • This position is responsible for implementing the STEM elementary curriculum.
  • This position is also responsible for collaborating with teachers in promoting interdisciplinary STEM activities into the core curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Current valid Texas Teacher Elementary Certification
  • Masters in Mathematics and/or Science and/or STEM OR a STEM Certification (from the National Institution for STEM Education), required.

Experience:
  • Experience in delivering professional development to teachers.
  • Evidence of at least three (3) years of exemplary classroom teaching experience in Science and/or Math, preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
  • Proven track record in the use of a rich array of instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
  • Evidence of productive experience with problem-based learning.
  • Proven ability to apply science and/or math content knowledge, engineering and technology integration at a high level.
  • Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.
  • Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the principal and the administration.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
  • Model core organizational beliefs and values
  • Proven ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student learning
  • Co-teach and co-plan with core teachers to effectively deliver the STEM lab curriculum to students
  • Meets district expectations for attendance, professional appearance, decorum, procedural, ethical, legal and statutory responsibilities
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices of Texas Educators

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
  • Structure the STEM Lab and allocate resources to support learning for all students
  • Develop a STEM Lab program that engages students in high levels of learning

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
  • Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position
  • Maintain classroom organization and cleanliness
  • Works directly with school administrators and staff in development, implementation, and evaluation of STEM initiatives and curriculum
  • Coaches teachers on STEM initiatives and instructional best practices in the STEM areas
  • Serves as liaison to prospective or selected STEM vendors, to determine the best resources, options and innovations that will optimize the learning experience for students and staff
  • Initiates new programs such as a robotics afterschool club that supports the STEM vision
  • Develop a schedule that maximizes instructional time for STEM integration for all students in all school settings

STUDENT MANAGEMENT
  • Interact with students professionally, calmly, intentionally using language for teaching and de-escalation
  • Establishes a culture of learning where students value and are committed to the work and feel comfortable taking risks
  • Establishes, communicates, and maintains clear expectations for student behavior
  • Leads a mutually respectful and collaborative class of actively engaged learners

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
  • Shares STEM events and activities through social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Has growth mindset and desire to continue learning about the teaching and learning process and research based instructional strategies that yield student learning
  • Attends professional development and training related to STEM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research
