Gastroenterology Associates of Tidewater is seeking a Medical Customer Service Representative to join our team to help drive patient success in our community.
We are searching for a passionate Medical Assistant to take on the role of a Medical Customer Service Representative to assist with triaging. In this role as a Medical Customer Service Representative you work Full Time, Monday through Friday at our office in Chesapeake, VA. This position provides a great work - life balance as you will not have to work any nights or weekends. You may be required to drive to our Virginia Beach office, as needed.

What you will do:
  • Answer and routes call, according to practice standards in an efficient manner (I.e., warm telephone transfer or via the EMR).
  • Update basic demographic information when informed of any changes.
  • Obtain, verify, and update health history of patients.
  • Obtain, verify, and update medication list.
  • Manage patient prescriptions as directed by provider.
  • Arrange outgoing referrals as directed by provider.
  • Answer basic patient questions relating to GI conditions, procedures, and medications.
  • Give test results and/or relaying information at the direction of the provider.
  • Review procedure reports to ensure outlined planned is followed.
  • Assist with scheduling office visits, procedures, laboratory tests, x-rays, outpatient testing, hospital admissions and appointments as necessary.
  • Provide patients with the appropriate educational forms, literature, and instruction as directed by the provider.
  • Document patient interaction, patient education, or other communications between staff and the patient which may be pertinent to their treatment.
  • Exercise critical thinking skills when assisting patients with chronic disease states.
  • Ability to recognize when a situation is routine, urgent, or emergent.

What you bring:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working as a medical assistant preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology required.
