Job description

Materials Supervisor is responsible for overseeing material handling operations while coordinating supply chain activities to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective movement of materials. This role supervises daily warehouse and material flow operations, supports production and inventory accuracy, and collaborates closely with purchasing, logistics, and production teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate daily material handling, warehousing, and inventory activities.
  • Develop and maintain warehouse layout to optimize put away / picking workflows and simplify inventory counting.
  • Ensure materials are received, stored, issued, and shipped accurately and on time.
  • Monitor inventory levels and work with supply chain and purchasing teams to prevent shortages or overstock.
  • Support production schedules by ensuring material availability at points of use.
  • Train, coach, and oversee material handlers and warehouse staff.
  • Enforce safety policies, OSHA standards, and company procedures.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and assist with physical inventories.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and material flow issues.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics with carriers and internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and system transactions (ERP/WMS).
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding material status, risks, and performance metrics.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises material handlers and related warehouse personnel.
  • Responsible for scheduling, performance feedback, coaching, and documentation.
  • Assists with disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or supply chain degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in material handling, warehousing, or supply chain operations.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience required.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control, logistics, and supply chain processes.
  • Proven experience redesigning warehouse layouts to enhance put away / picking efficiency and inventory accuracy.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience with ERP or warehouse management systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
