Job description

Senior Mechanical Designer

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Designer with a strong manufacturer in the Aiken, SC area.  This is a career opportunity!

Salary Range: 120 to 140k+ depending on experience, education and overall skill set.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to lead the design and documentation of mechanical systems, process equipment, piping, and facility modifications within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. This role partners with engineering, quality, operations, and facilities teams to deliver projects from concept through installation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop 2D and 3D mechanical designs using AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D.
  • Design process equipment, piping systems, utilities, and facility improvements.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including P&IDs, equipment layouts, BOMs, and specifications.
  • Lead mechanical design efforts on capital projects from concept through qualification and startup.
  • Support equipment procurement, vendor management, FATs/SATs, and installation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, ASME BPE, and applicable industry standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and change control processes.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to engineering best practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years of mechanical design experience, including 3+ years in biotech, pharmaceutical, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Advanced AutoCAD 2D and 3D proficiency.
  • Experience with process equipment, piping systems, and facility design.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, engineering calculations, and material selection.

Preferred:

  • ASME BPE and hygienic design experience.
  • Cleanroom and HVAC knowledge.
  • SOLIDWORKS or Inventor experience.
  • PMP, Lean, or Six Sigma certification.
