About this role
Responsible for the oversight of technical production services for the Theatre. Manages the theatre stage and backstage area to include hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of technical crew members. Negotiates contractual services for lighting, sound, special effects, equipment, staging and wardrobe. Monitors the budget to ensure that expenditures are within the budget guidelines as directed by the Theatre Director. Work schedule varies and requires evening and weekend hours.
What a day of a Technical Production Supervisor looks like:
  • Guides, leads, reviews, verifies, observes, and manages the work of people reporting directly and indirectly to you. Develops and trains staff.
  • Develops and maintains partnership relationships with external agencies and vendors. Maintains vendor and customer database, including contracts, addresses, and terms.
  • Supervises load-in and load-out of equipment. Arranges for repair of equipment and machinery.
  • Actively participates in the inventory control activities of the department. Researches and recommends purchase of systems, equipment and materials. Assists with the purchase of needed supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, and in fabricating metal parts and tools.
  • Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment and machinery. Replaces defective or obsolete theatrical equipment and fixtures.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and evaluates delivery, operation, maintenance, and inventory control activities of the unit.
  • Operates stage lighting equipment for play production in auditorium; rig lighting equipment by use of ladder as required.
  • Performs technical set-up for video, audio and multi-image presentations and provide technical support.
  • Follows established safety practices. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace. Ensures equipment is used in a safe manner.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; or Associate's degree and four years related experience.

Knowledge of:
  • Theatre lighting and audio techniques
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:
  • Basic electronics and soldering
  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
  • Delivering a high level of customer service

Ability to:
  • Troubleshoot and minor repair of theatre lighting and audio
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service
  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
  • Regular physical attendance required
