Job description

Company Description
Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We build, power, and evolve the tools and technologies that connect millions of entrepreneurs with millions of buyers around the world. As an Etsy Inc. employee, whether a team member of Etsy or Depop, you will tackle unique, meaningful, and large-scale problems alongside passionate coworkers, all the while making a rewarding impact and Keeping Commerce Human.

Salary Range:

$144,000.00 - $186,000.00

What's the role?

As a Senior Technical Program Manager at Etsy, you will be a key driver in the planning and execution of complex, cross-functional technical programs across a range of engineering domains, including Infrastructure, Machine Learning Enablement, Apps, Payments, and Search.

In this role, you're not just coordinating timelines, you're determining the "how" of execution. You'll identify the right frameworks, structure team engagement, unblock dependencies, and build strong alignment across technical teams. You'll lead delivery through ambiguity, helping ensure we make steady progress on high-impact technical work while adapting to change and surfacing risks early

This is a hands-on role that requires developing technical insight, exercising influence, and communicating with clarity. You'll work closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and fellow TPMs to steer projects from early planning through to delivery. Additionally, you'll help foster a strong team culture by mentoring junior TPMs and setting the standard for effective, reliable execution.

This role is ideal for someone who is a natural collaborator, technically fluent, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Program Management. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy's Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Own and drive complex, cross-team technical programs, including infrastructure migrations, new capability development, and tooling upgrades

  • Determine the execution strategy for your programs - defining the how by selecting processes, setting rhythms, and building effective delivery structures

  • Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to develop clear roadmaps, milestones, success metrics, and operating cadences

  • Lead technical proof-of-concepts (POCs) in partnership with engineers, and manage vendor relationships for internal tooling and support

  • Work closely with junior TPMs to build and maintain centralized documentation, status tracking, and program artifacts

  • Proactively identify and resolve risks, technical blockers, and scope misalignments

  • Serve as the go-to communication channel across stakeholders - ensuring everyone is aligned, informed, and able to move forward

  • Escalate issues and delivery risks to TPM management and senior leadership where appropriate

  • Scale your involvement up or down as needed, flexing between strategic planning and tactical coordination

  • Support a culture of mentorship and collaboration, providing guidance to junior team members when needed

  • Build and maintain influence-based relationships across engineering, product, analytics, and design teams

  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are

  • 5-7 years of experience in technical program management or a similar role within the technology industry

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical programs involving infrastructure, platform engineering, machine learning, mobile, or other deep tech areas

  • Solid technical acumen - you don't need to be an engineer, but you can understand architecture, systems interactions, and delivery constraints

  • Hands-on experience managing POCs, vendor engagements, or internal tooling initiatives

  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing multiple high-impact initiatives concurrently

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to engineers, executives, and stakeholders

  • Deep experience in Agile, Lean, or hybrid environments - delivering value iteratively while managing complexity

  • Ability to influence without authority, earn trust, and align diverse stakeholders

  • Calm, solutions-oriented mindset in the face of ambiguity and change

Nice to Have

  • Experience in eCommerce or platform infrastructure

  • Familiarity with Etsy's stack or similar environments

  • Experience working with ML/AI or real-time search systems

  • Background in fast-scaling or startup environments
