Job description

Position Overview:

The Program Manager (PgM) is responsible for planning, executing, and closing complex, strategic projects, including the delivery of multiple, interrelated projects from initiation through post-production support. This role partners with cross-functional teams, both internal and external, and engages regularly with senior leadership to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and the adoption of best practices. The PgM operates in accordance with established SDLC methodologies, PMO standards, and company business processes.

The PgM collaborates within the PMO to advance best practices, support continuous improvement, and strengthen delivery methodologies. This role also mentors junior team members and promotes consistent, standard work processes across the organization. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and successful program outcomes.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that all assigned projects are delivered on time, within the scope and budget. Examples of projects that could be assigned are; new product development, cost savings initiatives, business integrations, technology upgrades, process improvements, etc.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project goals, scope, needs/expectations, and success criteria among executive sponsors, project ownership, key stakeholders, and project team.
  • Effectively manage risk, including management strategies, mitigation plans, monitoring, and reporting. This extends to issues and required decisions, ensuring transparency and understanding each project's needs and requirements.
  • Proactively manage project change requests and manager efforts to assess impacts. Socialize with project sponsor(s), leaders, and stakeholders and secure proper approval of proposed changes.
  • Monitor project performance, identify issues and resolutions, and escalate issues via the project sponsor and key business stakeholders as needed.
  • Actively drive timely conclusions with key stakeholders and anticipate upcoming tasks needed to complete critical path.
  • Collaborate and coach Project Managers throughout the organization to apply project management best practices and reinforce standard PMO tools and processes.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Experience and Education:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or relevant experience. Masters degree preferred.
  • PMP certification required.


Experience:

  • Minimum ten years’ experience in Project Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous CPG experience a plus
  • Strong background in a mainstream PPM tool such as Clarity PPM, Planview, ServiceNow Portfolio Management, Microsoft Project, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)

  • Strong organizational skills – pays attention to details and is able to document effectively.
  • Continuous learner – ability to apply learnings from previous experiences to improve future outcomes
  • Must possess the ability to consistently maintain external and internal confidentiality.
