Job Description

Job Title: HR Staff

Division: Operations
Department: Human Resources
Reports to: Human Resources Manager
Position Type: Unpaid Volunteer
Location: Remote with occasional in-person meetings (location-dependent), expected to be on-site during convention dates

About Anthro SoCal

Anthro SoCal is a community-driven convention celebrating furry fandom through art, performance, gaming, and social connection. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer team. Anthro SoCal was formally known as Another Furry Con in 2024-2025.

Position Overview

The HR Staff member is a foundational connector for the convention's internal workforce, ensuring that all volunteers are properly welcomed, credentialed, and informed before they begin their shifts. Operating directly under the HR Manager, you will staff the central HR Desk during the convention. In this staff-level role, you are responsible for executing the onboarding pipeline by checking in staff members, issuing official badges, explaining tracking protocols, and accurately processing completed timecards. If you are a highly organized, approachable, and detail-oriented communicator who wants to support the incredible team behind the scenes, this role is a perfect fit.

Time Commitment
  • Year-round: None
  • As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested
  • Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours. Must plan to work the minimum volunteer hour requirement posted on the website
  • Pre and post-convention: None
Key Responsibilities

Your shift will center around customer service for internal staff, database data entry, and policy communication:

  • HR Desk Staffing: Maintain a consistent, professional, and welcoming presence at the central HR Desk during your scheduled shifts throughout the convention
  • Staff Check-In & Credentialing: Verify incoming staff and volunteer identities, locate their profiles in the system, and issue their official staff badges
  • Policy Orientation: Clearly communicate essential staff policies, code of conduct highlights, and instructions on how to accurately track and report hours worked
  • Timecard Data Entry: Receive completed physical timecards from staff members at the end of their shifts and accurately input their hours worked into the centralized convention management system
  • Internal Guest Services: Serve as a reliable information resource for staff inquiries, providing clear, polite guidance and routing complex issues to the HR Manager or appropriate ASC leadership when necessary
Qualifications

Required:

  • Punctuality & Reliability: Strict adherence to your scheduled shift times, particularly on the first day of the convention when staff check-in volume peaks
  • Data Entry Accuracy: High attention to detail and complete comfort utilizing digital systems, spreadsheets, or internal convention databases to log information and work hours
  • Professionalism & Discretion: Exceptional interpersonal communication skills to welcome fellow staff warmly while handling internal records with appropriate confidentiality and tact
  • Problem-Solving & Patience: The ability to "think on your feet" when resolving check-in discrepancies or explaining guidelines clearly to tired staff members under a time crunch

Preferred:

  • Fandom & Convention Knowledge: A strong understanding of convention culture and internal staff dynamics, allowing you to relate seamlessly to volunteers and understand the general flow of volunteer shifts
  • Administrative or HR Experience: Prior experience in data entry, front-desk reception, office administration, volunteer management, or basic customer service environments
  • Stress Resolution Skills: The ability to stay completely grounded, organized, and unbothered when managing busy peak hours at the desk
What We Offer

While this is an unpaid volunteer position, we provide:

  • Free convention membership and staff perks
  • Staff hospitality (meals/snacks during your shifts at-con)
  • Exclusive staff events and social opportunities
  • Recognition in convention materials
  • Experience in event management and team leadership
  • A supportive, creative community environment
  • References and recommendation letters upon request

Anthro SoCal is committed to creating an inclusive environment. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
