Job Description
A leading textile manufacturing company is seeking a Continuous Process Improvement Engineer with strong hands-on mechanical engineering experience to support and optimize manufacturing operations at its Charlotte facility. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on the production floor, enjoys troubleshooting complex mechanical systems, and has experience improving textile manufacturing processes and equipment reliability.
The successful candidate will partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize machinery performance, reduce downtime, improve product quality, and implement sustainable process improvements throughout the plant. Experience with textile production equipment, mechanical systems, automation, and continuous improvement methodologies is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on mechanical engineering support for textile manufacturing equipment, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and equipment optimization.
  • Evaluate existing textile manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, throughput, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma, DMAIC, Kaizen, and other proven methodologies.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to improve machine reliability, minimize downtime, and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Analyze production data, scrap rates, machine performance, and downtime trends to implement measurable process improvements.
  • Support equipment modifications, mechanical upgrades, and capital improvement projects from concept through implementation.
  • Develop and improve preventive maintenance practices in partnership with maintenance personnel.
  • Assist in equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and start-up of new manufacturing equipment.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and process specifications.
  • Train operators and maintenance technicians on equipment operation, process improvements, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience within a textile manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting, troubleshooting, and improving textile manufacturing equipment such as spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing, coating, converting, or similar production machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in rotating equipment, conveyors, drive systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes, and industrial automation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DMAIC, Kaizen, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions that improve equipment reliability and manufacturing performance.
  • Ability to interpret production metrics, analyze equipment performance data, and drive measurable operational improvements.
  • Experience working closely with maintenance, production, quality, and engineering teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing reporting systems; experience with CMMS, ERP, or CAD software is a plus.
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments, including frequent walking on the production floor, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with textile manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, PLC-controlled equipment, and manufacturing controls.
  • Familiarity with OEE, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), reliability engineering, and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification is a plus.
  • Experience managing capital equipment projects and equipment installations.
