Job description

Salary: $315,000+ TCC

This is a rare opportunity for a technology leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy and execution, who understands healthcare and HCIT deeply, and who is energized by the chance to apply AI and modern software tools in a high-stakes, high-standards environment.

We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Head of Technology to architect and lead the next era of innovation at Private Medical.
You will own the technology systems that enable 160 people to deliver high-touch, personalized, proactive, data-driven care to a highly discerning membership, and you will build the capabilities and infrastructure that enables Private Medical scale beyond our current footprint. You will be expected to roll up your sleeves alongside your colleagues to make it happen.

Location: Hybrid (50% remote, 50% working from San Francisco and/or Menlo Park offices)

Team leadership: Manage and develop the internal IT organization, including an IT Manager, IT Support Specialists, Systems Administrator, Project Manager, and Salesforce Administrator. This includes ownership of IT operations, enterprise systems, service delivery, and cross-functional technology support across the organization.

About Us

At Private Medical, we know that a great experience for patients, physicians, and the entire team transpires when people from different geographies, religions, ethnicities, political affiliations, genders, abilities, and creeds engage in collaboration. It is vital that we remain curious and compassionate towards ourselves and others, that we celebrate the new perspectives diversity invites us to see, and that we learn and adapt to the influence of our community to foster a safe and collaborative space.

What You'll Do

Technology Strategy & Roadmap

  • Partner directly with the CEO and senior leadership to develop and own Private Medicals multi-year technology roadmap, spanning clinical operations, member experience, data management, and internal systems. This technology roadmap allows our clinical teams to dedicate more of their time to patient facing care, provides our members with a more modern interface for care and communications, and enables Private Medical to scale more rapidly.
  • Identify and evaluate technologies, both emerging (including AI) and well established, and translate them into concrete, prioritized opportunities for the business.
  • Own the technology budget and provide regular reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors on progress, priorities, and ROI.

AI & Clinical Innovation

  • Lead the design and implementation of AI-powered tools that enhance the productivity and effectiveness of our clinical teams from intelligent documentation and ambient scribing to proactive care gap identification and predictive analytics.
  • Develop next-generation member-facing technology, including mobile and digital communication tools that reflect the premium, personalized nature of our brand.
  • Evaluate and implement purpose-built AI solutions for healthcare, as well as general-purpose LLM and automation tools adapted for clinical workflows.
  • Ensure all AI initiatives comply with HIPAA and other applicable healthcare regulations. Establish governance frameworks for responsible AI use, including model validation, a clear stance on PHI handling in third-party LLM pipelines, and monitoring for clinical AI tools that approach clinical decision support.

Core Systems & Integrations

  • Drive the continued evolution of our Salesforce CRM platform and its deep integration with Elation, our Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
  • Lead the design of internal processes and data flows that enable our clinical teams to provide proactive, data-driven, best-in-class care and enable appropriate performance management.
  • Optimize usage of our existing software stack including Salesforce, Elation EHR, Slack, Box, Confluence, NetSuite and Google Workspace and evaluate and select any additional or different products as needed.

Team Leadership & Execution

  • Manage and develop our internal IT teams, including hiring, performance management, and day-to-day leadership.
  • Lead quarterly and annual planning cycles for the technology function, building and maintaining a clear project roadmap.
  • Coordinate and manage third-party vendors and implementation consultants to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Champion a culture of rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement within the technology organization.

Infrastructure & Security

  • Ensure our employees receive high-quality device management, IT support, and cybersecurity protection across all offices and remote environments.
  • Oversee compliance with HIPAA, the 21st Century Cures Act information blocking rules, and the security and privacy of member health data. Familiarity with HITRUST CSF and SOC 2 Type II frameworks is expected.
  • Build scalable infrastructure capable of supporting Private Medicals continued growth.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree required (preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field); advanced degree a plus.
  • 8+ years in technology leadership roles, with direct accountability for strategy, implementation, and team management.
  • Demonstrated success leading technology transformation in healthcare ideally in a clinical, provider, or health services environment with exposure to EHR systems, HIPAA compliance, clinical workflows, and driving clinician adoption of technology.
  • Experience operating at both scale (larger organizations with sophisticated systems) and speed (high-growth environments where you personally drive execution).
  • Track record of successfully implementing AI, automation, or advanced analytics in an enterprise or clinical context.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and complex, cross-functional multi-month projects.

Clinical Informatics & Interoperability

  • Working knowledge of clinical data exchange standards including HL7 v2, FHIR R4, and C-CDA and comfort evaluating interoperability vendors and integration architecture decisions.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape governing health data exchange, from HIPAA and HITECH through the 21st Century Cures Act information blocking rules and TEFCA.
  • Understanding of clinical terminologies (LOINC, SNOMED CT, RxNorm, ICD-10, CPT) sufficient to work effectively with clinical and informatics partners.
  • Experience establishing governance for clinical AI tools, including responsible handling of PHI in LLM pipelines and validation practices for tools that inform clinical workflows.

Skills & Mindset

  • A strategic thinker who can translate business needs into clear technology plans and then execute them.
  • Comfortable operating without a large team; you lead by doing, not just directing.
  • Exceptional at earning trust with physicians, administrative staff, operations partners, and executive leadership.
  • An entrepreneurial orientation: you take ownership, move with urgency, and hold yourself to a high standard.
  • Deep familiarity with modern SaaS platforms, APIs, data integrations, and cloud infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth experience with Salesforce CRM, including Salesforce Health Cloud.
  • Hands-on experience implementing or managing EHR systems (Elation experience a significant plus).
  • Familiarity with AI tools applicable to clinical settings ambient AI, clinical NLP, patient engagement automation, or similar.
  • HITRUST CSF or SOC 2 Type II implementation experience; or equivalent demonstrated expertise in healthcare data security.
  • PMP or equivalent project management experience.
  • Prior work at a concierge, direct primary care, or high-touch membership-based healthcare organization, or at a patient-facing digital health company (One Medical, Crossover Health, Oak Street, Forward, Iora, or similar) is a plus!

What is in it for you?

  • A competitive starting salary commensurate with experience and skills
  • 401(k) with a match (up to 3% of salary)
  • Robust health benefits
  • Wellness and WFH reimbursement (up to $1,500/year)
  • 3 weeks of paid time off
  • 10 paid holidays off & 1 floating holiday
  • ......and most importantly, the chance to help lead the evolution of an established, highly respected primary care practice into its next phase of growth!

We appreciate all applications and will be in touch with selected candidates as soon as possible.
