Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan at least 3 times per week.

About GM Defense

GM Defense (GMD) continues a 100-year legacy of designing, validating, and manufacturing vehicles and equipment in support of defense and other government customers.Within GM Defense, the recently created Autonomous Driving and Robotics group is charged with adapting, integrating, and enhancing GM's automated driving capabilities to the needs of GM Defense customers.

The Role:

The GMD Purchasing team is seeking a Global Sourcing Manager to support production procurement activities for current and future GMD programs.

This Global Sourcing Manager will be responsible for the purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services. You will be responsible for actively participating in development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and interface with suppliers or internal stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

  • Execute both SOR and DCR Sourcings
  • Issuing of Part, Spot Buy, and Tooling Purchasing Contracts
  • Completion and retention of required Documents to support both GMD internal and Government / Customer requirements
  • Execution of Engineering DCR's (Defense Change Requests)
  • Work on cost reduction activities
  • Manage Supplier Relations

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum of 2+ years relevant Purchasing experience
  • Experience managing commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance
  • Role subject to U.S. export control restrictions. Successful candidates must either be a U.S. Person (defined by U.S. law as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
  • Experience with SAP or similar technology and MRP or equivalent systems
  • Demonstrated competence in negotiating skills
  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be extremely complex
  • Ability to work effectively cross functionally, both internally and externally and build relationships
  • Developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Defense industry experience
  • Experience with commodities (metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, paint, electronics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of procurement software
  • Knowledge of materials management
  • Ability to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents
  • Solid knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes
  • Ability to work globally, independently, and self-directed
