What makes you an ideal candidate?

  • Substantial knowledge of the personal auto insurance product, including coverage, underwriting, operations, pricing and the insurance regulatory system
  • Experience developing and implementing new, creative and effective solutions to highly complex business issues
  • Experience managing relationships with upper management and with technical roles
  • Proven track record managing insurance product performance, including one or more complex states 
  • Experience managing, mentoring and developing people
  • Ability to utilize quantitative approaches to generate sound business analyses with detail orientation. Identify results out of the norm, draw conclusions and articulate findings
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), cross-collaboration and team skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong in the use of Microsoft Office software including strong ability to analyze data using Excel for reporting and data mining purposes
  • Ability to meet expected delivery dates and the tasks necessary to achieve objectives
  • Strong ability to lead, organize, and supervise

Work Experience

  • 5-7 years Related professional experience with analysis and/or managing insurance performance including product management, actuarial, underwriting required
  • 5-7 years Leading direct reports or matrixed project teams required
     

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certifications such as FCAS/ACAS or CPCU are a plus[

The base salary for this role is $170,000 to $258,000.

At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience and education.

This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.

About the role:

Opportunity to work exclusively remote. 
 

The AVP State Product Management is responsible for managing a portfolio of states and the managers who run them. They also have direct P&L ownership of one or more complex states and may be responsible for launching a new state.

The AVP provides expert-level product and regulatory knowledge, and coaches managers on market knowledge, product judgment, and filing approach. They tackle cross-functional, multi-state problems with high ambiguity. They can anticipate downstream impacts and resolve issues that require coordination across business units.

The AVP sets direction and ensures consistency in product strategy across states. They influence prioritization of state and countrywide insurance product initiatives, plan resource allocation and inform financial planning through strong business cases. They shape decisions at senior levels by delivering strategic insights and product direction.

This is a highly visible position that offers an excellent opportunity to interact with a variety of business leaders across the enterprise (Product & Design, Technology, Consumer Acquisition, Customer Engagement, Claims, Finance, Legal, etc).

In this role you will:

  • Responsible for establishing strategic vision and implementing business plans to achieve profit and growth targets in portfolio of states
  • Manage, mentor and develop state managers and other staff
  • Prioritize state insurance product initiatives and manage allocation of team resources
  • Influence direction of countrywide product and operational initiatives
  • Project premium and loss ratio for portfolio of states in consideration of planned actions 
  • P&L ownership of one or more complex state(s) 
  • May be responsible for launching a new state
  • Serve as product and regulatory expert to State Product Management and other teams
  • Monitor the market conditions and competitive, legislative and regulatory environments in portfolio of states to identify emerging threats and opportunities and recommend plans for responding
  • Investigate and resolve potential compliance issues
  • Develop hypotheses and seek out new ideas and approaches to business issues
  • Seek continuous process improvement
