What is a freight sales manager?

Freight Sales Managers are professionals responsible for selling freight shipping services to businesses that need to transport goods. They develop and maintain client relationships, negotiate shipping rates, and ensure customer satisfaction with logistics solutions. Their role often involves meeting sales targets, identifying new business opportunities, and working closely with operations teams to coordinate shipments. Freight Sales Managers typically work for logistics companies, freight forwarders, or carriers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freight sales manager?

To thrive as a Freight Sales Manager, you need a deep understanding of logistics, supply chain management, and sales strategies, typically supported by experience in freight forwarding or transportation and a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM software, freight management systems, and industry-standard quoting tools is commonly required. Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills help drive business growth and maintain client satisfaction. These competencies are crucial for successfully expanding market share and ensuring smooth operations in the competitive freight industry.

AJC Freight Solutions: Freight Sales Account Executive

AJC International

Miami, FL

Full-time

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

AJC Freight Solutions is hiring Freight Sales Account Executives in Miami, FL to grow our customer base and drive gross profit through new and existing freight business.

This is a hunter/closer role for an experienced freight sales professional with a track record of exceeding quota - not an entry-level position. We are open to candidates with backgrounds in freight brokerage/3PL, asset-based trucking, or international freight forwarding.

What You'll Do

  • Prospect, cold-call, and close new shipper accounts across truckload, LTL, intermodal, and/or international freight, depending on your background.
  • Own and grow a book of business, building long-term relationships that drive repeat volume.
  • Negotiate customer rates and carrier costs to protect and expand gross profit (GP) margin on every load.
  • Partner with carrier sales, operations, and pricing teams to ensure on-time service and resolve issues quickly.
  • Track pipeline, activity, and account health in the CRM/TMS; forecast volume and revenue accurately.
  • Stay on top of market capacity, freight rates, and competitor activity in the Miami/South Florida market and beyond.
  • Consistently meet or exceed monthly and quarterly GP and volume targets.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of outside or inside sales experience in the freight/logistics industry - freight brokerage, 3PL, asset-based trucking/carrier, or freight forwarding.
  • Documented top-performer track record: quota attainment, sales awards, President's Club, or a portable book of business.
  • Strong cold-calling, negotiation, and relationship-building skills; comfortable with a high-activity, metrics-driven sales cycle.
  • Working knowledge of TMS platforms, load boards (DAT, Truckstop), and CRM tools.
  • Based in or able to reliably work from the Miami, FL area.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered in place of a degree.
