Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the administrative staff assistant to the Lieutenant Colonel \r\n(Bureau Chief) of the Homeland Security and Intelligence Bureau. This position plays a \r\nvery intricate part in the Department, relieving the Bureau Chief of many details involving \r\na wide variety of technical, non-technical and administrative services. This position \r\nserves as the confidential assistant to the Bureau Chief in highly sensitive matters and \r\ninvestigations and acts as a key member in the daily operations and management of the \r\nHomeland Security and Intelligence Bureau.

POSITION DUTIES

Organizes and structures daily schedule of appointments,\r\nand screens all visitors for the Bureau Chief for the various demands of his\r\ntime for meetings and public functions. This involves activities involving\r\nMaryland State Police matters as well as the Maryland Coordination and Analysis\r\nCenter's Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council (ATAC) and the Federal Bureau of\r\nInvestigation (FBI). Coordinates the Bureau Chief's appearances as the Maryland\r\nState Police representative at high level, top secret meetings and events.\r\nConveys and acts as the liaison for the Bureau Chief and\r\nconsults directly with members of the MCAC's ATAC board, and various other\r\npersonnel within State government, high level officials of other law\r\nenforcement agencies, including the FBI, and the general public on the various\r\npolicies and procedures of the Maryland State Police and Homeland Security.\r\nIndependently responds to the Bureau and MCAC's staff concerning policies, and\r\nlegislative matters. This requires considerable tact, diplomacy, discretion,\r\ngood judgement, and experience in making decisions of an administrative nature\r\ninstantly.\r\nManages the office and the secretarial operations within\r\nthe Homeland Security and Intelligence Bureau. Reviews correspondence to the\r\nMCAC, the University of Baltimore and the FBI for final signature of the\r\nLieutenant Colonel. Advise and assist other clerical and sworn personnel within\r\nthe Bureau to include allied agency personnel both sworn and civilian assigned\r\nto the MCAC on proper handling and preparation of correspondence, both written\r\nand oral, for the Bureau Chief and the MCAC's Executive Director's signature.\r\nThis includes correspondence to federal, state and local officials.\r\nPerforms other related duties as assigned\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an\r\naccredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\n\r\nExperience: Six years\r\nperforming administrative or secretarial work involving typing duties.\r\n\r\nNote: Thirty credit hours from\r\nand accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of thirty\r\ncredits for one year of experience for up to four years of the required\r\nexperience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:\r\n\r\n1. Experience in Windows based\r\noperating systems; preferably Windows 10.\r\n\r\n2. Experience with Microsoft\r\nproducts (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).\r\n\r\n3. Experience with Google\r\nproducts (Docs, Sheets, Slides).\r\n\r\n4. Experience taking meeting\r\n'minutes'.\r\n\r\n5. Experience completing and\r\nsending correspondence for and Executive/Commander.\r\n

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for this\r\nrecruitment will involve a rating of the training and experience provided on\r\nthe application. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed\r\non an eligible list in the BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, and QUALIFIED\r\ncategories. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the\r\nindividual to fill this vacancy. The list will be valid for one year.\r\n

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of\r\na rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements\r\nof the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement,\r\nor the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and\r\neducation that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical\r\nexamination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation,\r\npolygraph examination and substance abuse testing.\r\n
