SUMMARY
The Damage Repair Specialist is responsible for evaluating, repairing, restoring, and recovering damaged equipment and assets to improve inventory recovery value and reduce avoidable operational losses. This position focuses on damaged, unavailable, and non-performing assets within the regional warehouse environment and plays a key role in supporting operational recovery and maintenance initiatives tied directly to EBIT improvement and inventory optimization.
This role requires strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability, hands-on technical repair experience, and the capacity to work independently while maintaining productivity, quality, and documentation standards across a range of equipment and operational support needs.
Job Responsibilities: Damage Repair Specialist
  • Diagnose and repair damaged residential and light commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Evaluate damaged units to determine repair viability, part recovery opportunities, return-to-stock potential, or scrap recommendation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, cosmetic, refrigeration, and component-related damage.
  • Restore qualifying units to sellable condition in alignment with operational quality standards.
  • Utilize approved reclaimed parts from scrap inventory when appropriate and properly documented.
  • Document repairs, labor hours, parts used, unit condition, repair outcome, and recovery value where applicable.
  • Maintain daily repair logs, productivity tracking, and repair status updates.
  • Support inventory recovery, unavailable inventory reduction, and damaged inventory disposition initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Inventory Control, Warehouse, Sales, and management teams regarding damaged inventory workflow.
  • Identify recurring damage trends, repair barriers, root causes, and opportunities to reduce future losses.
  • Maintain repair tools, equipment, supplies, and designated work areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Assist with minor warehouse maintenance, equipment upkeep, facility support, and other operational support needs as directed by management.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment at all times.
  • Perform additional maintenance-related or operational duties as assigned by management.

Requirements: Damage Repair Specialist
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of hands-on HVAC repair, troubleshooting, or equipment service experience required.
  • EPA Section 608 certification required for handling regulated refrigerants; Universal certification strongly preferred.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and clean driving record required for regional travel as needed.
  • Must pass required pre-employment drug screening, background check, and any applicable pre-employment testing.
  • Ability to lift, move, or assist with HVAC equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, following safe lifting practices.

Preferred / Bonus Certifications: Damage Repair Specialist
  • NATE Certification
  • EPA Certification preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • HVAC Excellence certification.
  • Manufacturer-specific HVAC equipment certifications.
  • Forklift certification or prior forklift operating experience in a warehouse environment.
  • Warehouse, distribution, freight damage, refurbishment, or inventory recovery experience.
  • Familiarity with HVAC parts identification, reclaimed parts processes, and damaged freight workflows.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Damage Repair Specialist
  • Proficient diagnosing and repairing residential and light commercial HVAC systems.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and product documentation.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC components, electrical systems, refrigerant handling, and safe repair practices.
  • Familiarity with applicable Florida HVAC codes and safety requirements preferred.
  • Strong documentation, organization, time management, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while meeting productivity and quality expectations.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and support operational needs across the warehouse environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with warehouse, operations, inventory, and management teams.
