EMR Coordinator (RN)

Position Goal

The EMR Coordinator, utilizing clinical knowledge, is responsible for the planning, design, testing, training, and implementation of EMR applications utilized by Columbus Hospice. The EMR Coordinator identifies opportunities where clinical information systems can be utilized to optimize workflow for clinical and administrative processes. This role requires a combination of clinical expertise, technical knowledge, and strong communication skills to ensure the effective adoption of EMR and related technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience in healthcare EMR systems management, in hospice care operations, and will maintain compliance with regulatory, policy, and legal requirements. 


Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of three years of experience with a hospice EMR system.
  • Must possess working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid regulatory requirements, and Joint Commission requirements governing hospice care. 

Education, License, and Certification

Required:

  • Associate's degree in nursing
  • RN license in Georgia and Alabama, or Multi-State RN license
  • Certification in hospice and palliative nursing (CHPN) or the ability to obtain within one year of accepting the position.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing
  • CPR certification 

Special Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Must be proficient in Hospice EMR system
  • Must be able to work independently, multi-task, and deal with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must have Influenza vaccine during influenza season or adhere to policy requirements for declination. (Nov. - Mar.)
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Must have auto insurance coverage per policy with reliable transportation 

Position Responsibilities

  • Involve stakeholders (internal and external) in updates/changes to EMR.
  • Review all change requests submitted by the users for the development and improvement of the clinical information systems. Directing requests to the appropriate clinical and IT work groups for further review, discussion, and approval.
  • Participate in the review and modification of policies and procedures to assure alignment with regulatory guidelines. Ensure policies and procedures are developed and/or updated as necessary to coincide with the implementation of new clinical information systems functionality.
  • Facilitate or participate in the development of required reports needed for Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), Compliance, and regulatory management of the data in the clinical information systems.
  • Create reports of findings/recommendations and organizational process changes related to EMR systems.
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize, assess, and reallocate work to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to analyze workflow processes to achieve user goals and organization needs.
  • Review and analyze data from electronic health record, financial records, coding records, and other sources.
  • Facilitate training, installation, maintenance, and overall use of EMR system.
  • Compile data into reports for analysis by various departments and committees and acts as liaison between clinical improvement teams and systems to interpret standards and specifications.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on various EMR.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of healthcare systems/EMRs and serve as a resource for users.
  • Assist with implementation of polices, practices, and systems to ensure the privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient information. 
  • Provide solutions for user workflow concerns.
  • Serve as an internal and external liaison and resource between different hospice departments and outside entities, including vendors, oversight agencies, accrediting bodies and other parties, to ensure that Columbus Hospice's privacy and security practices are implemented, consistent, and coordinated.
  • Develop or deliver training programs for EMR, creating operation manuals as needed.
  • Attend mandatory in-service education and staff meetings.
  • Participate in staff development as required, to include 15 hours of CEUs per evaluation year as per Columbus Hospice policy. 
  • Take all reasonable precautions to maintain privacy and non-disclosure of any confidential information about patients, other staff members, and the general operations of Columbus Hospice, Inc.
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times with others, e.g., co-workers, management, vendors, and customers. 
  • Complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job, including attendance requirements and prompt arrival at work.
  • When unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities, proactively seeks the assistance of immediate supervisor.
  • Assists with special projects, as requested.
  • All other job duties as may be assigned.
