Job description

Metro is seeking an Employee and Labor Relations / Legal Intern to assist the Director of Labor Relations in a variety of areas such as labor contract review and compliance, legal research, grievance administration including arbitration preparation and administration, labor contract negotiation preparation and administration, departmental administrative tasks and drafting of policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Research and perform competitive market analysis of salary and benefit information between employers
  • Collect, analyze and report on data for use in collective bargaining
  • Research, Interpret, Compare and Contrast internal and external labor agreements, legislation, arbitration decisions, policies and related materials associated with employee and labor relations.
  • Creation of reports, tables, graphs and presentations for various audience groups using such
  • software as Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Access and others.
  • Organize existing files utilizing technology in a way meaningful data can be utilized.
  • Drafting of departmental and organizational procedures
  • Assist in administrative tasks related to Labor and Employee Relations
  • Follow grievance activity and assist in updating SORTA/Metro's grievance and arbitration archives
  • Assist in preparation of labor arbitration proceedings (including gathering information, contacting witnesses, and coordinating meetings)
  • Attend grievance hearings, Arbitrations and/or other labor proceedings, as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting Labor Negotiations both administratively and strategically preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in complex research, analyzing information and data, and presenting findings in easy-to-understand formats
  • Experience using Outlook
  • Experience filing and organizing large amounts of data
  • Administrative experience related to typical Office tasks

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Computer Skills
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel and Advance level knowledge of other computer technology for gathering, organizing, presenting and utilizing information and data.
  • Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and email.
  • Experience using Outlook
  • Skilled in using WestlawNext, Lexis Advance and/or Bloomberg BNA preferred.

Other Skills
  • Self-Starter; ability to take the lead on assignments and work with limited supervision
  • Resourceful, energetic, goal-oriented
