The Director Safety, HOP, Emergency Management develops and leads enterprise-wide (non-nuclear) programs for Industrial Safety, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), and the Corrective Action Program (CAP), The role provides strategic direction, governance, and oversight to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations and to sustain a safety-conscious work culture across the enterprise.
- Bachelor's degree in business or other job-related field from an accredited college or university, plus ten (10) years of experience in Safety, Human/Organizational Performance, Emergency Management, Operations, or other directly related fields.Â
- In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a combination of college coursework and experience totaling fourteen (14) years.
- Five (5) years of supervisory/management experience.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication; effective stakeholder management.
- Ability to work across functions to build credibility, influence decisions, and drive practical solutions.
- Experience partnering with senior leadership and interfacing with external regulators, as required.
- Demonstrated program/project management skills, including planning, prioritization, and execution.
1) Provide enterprise-wide governance and strategic direction for industrial and public safety programs. Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, programs, and procedures that reinforce a safety-conscious work culture and ensure compliance with applicable safety and health standards. Lead and participate in internal safety peer groups, committees, and initiatives.
2) Govern and oversee company-wide safety compliance. Partner with Legal, regulatory agencies, operating units, and management to resolve complex compliance issues and to sustain constructive, transparent working relationships. Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure policies, processes, and procedures remain current and compliant.
3) Build and maintain effective relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies; safety and emergency management organizations; industry groups; and other key stakeholders to advance the Company's environmental and safety leadership.
4) Lead investigations of serious safety incidents to identify root cause(s), contributing factors, and corrective actions. Ensure timely follow-through to prevent recurrence. Oversee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and environmental compliance inspections, including response activities related to findings, citations, and corrective actions.
5) Direct the Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) function to reduce human error and strengthen error-tolerant systems. Oversee the Corrective Action Program (CAP) to evaluate and document adverse conditions and to initiate, track, and verify completion of corrective actions.
6) Maintain enterprise governance for the APS Emergency Management (non-nuclear) Program. Plan, develop, and direct emergency management activities across Corporate EM, Transmission & Distribution EM, Generation EM, and Cyber/IT EM.
7) Select, develop, and retain high-performing teams through coaching, feedback, recognition, training, and development opportunities.
8) Own and manage budgets for assigned areas; monitor performance and take corrective action when results deviate from plan.
