Job Summary:
Supports the implementation of Digital Commerce merchandising strategies and is responsible for shaping online customer-centric pricing, promotions and assortment decisions, as well as providing input on digital marketing programs for a given set of categories. Collaborates daily with cross-functional teams to guide the planning and execution of online merchandising strategy essential to the Organization's vision. Manages ongoing business through insight-led decision-making, assortment optimization, category marketing, visual merchandising, and supplier management.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Plans, develops, and is responsible for sales, gross profit level, inventory control, and merchandise turnover objectives for assigned online merchandise categories.
  • Develops and determines digital merchandising, marketing, and promotion plans to drive omni-channel revenue and profit.
  • Ensures consistent digitally-enabled end-to-end customer experience, with aligned assortment, price, and promo experience.
  • Manages day-to-day supplier relationships and negotiates contracts.
  • Uses market, competitive, and customer insights to translate findings into digital merchandising strategies.
  • Collaborates with Product Management team to provide input on category-specific functionality and capability for website.
  • Provides recommendations for new merchandising initiatives and manages development of initiatives.
  • Maintains an understanding of Walgreens assortment and projected sales forecasts, gross profit level, and digital merchandising and promotional programs. Works with cross-functional teams to project sales forecasts and gross profit levels within the assigned categories.
  • Collaborates and works cross-functionally to develop strategies to mitigate loss and/or optimize profitability.
  • Shares information cross-functionally to improve workflow processes. Interacts with direct reports and peers in management / customers / vendors to share information and improve cross-departmental processes and relationships.
  • Continuously evaluates Digital Commerce merchandising best practices, methodology and tools and seeks to improve deliverables in order to maintain alignment with business needs.
  • Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and counseling to team members. Allocates available resources to meet operating objectives. Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

External Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of merchandising experience OR a high school diploma/GED and at least 5 years of merchandising experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with P&L concepts - revenue, cogs, gross profit margin, operating expenses and income.
  • Knowledge of customer centric retailing principles and the analytics of customer purchase behavior, along with sourcing, supplier negotiations, visual merchandising, forecasting and promotional strategy.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing strategic programs in digital merchandising, vendor relations, and marketing in the retail business.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community and with vendors.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite.
  • At least 1 year experience of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree OR MBA.
  • At least 4 years of experience in one or more of the following: retail, procurement/purchasing, merchandising, vendor relations, or retail marketing.
  • Experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
  • Experience working in the digital space.
