Position Charter

The Engineering Manager I manages their areas to achieve company objectives and departmental metrics. They provide leadership to ensure a safe clean work environment, drive continuous improvement, ensure standardization of best engineering and laboratory practices, drive quality improvements, drive reduction of operating costs, and ensure process capability.

The Engineering Manager I reports to their area Director.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads a technical team to meet performance goals while adhering to approved budgets.
  • Ensures that resources are managed to meet production schedules and development needs.
  • Collaborates with other Tosoh SMD, Inc. (TSMD) Managers to prioritize tasks, support company needs and enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Drives problem-solving initiatives to support or lead customer investigations, Material Review Board’s (MRB’s), corrective actions, development efforts, and related activities.
  • Promotes standardization of best practices throughout their areas. Develops and executes standard work and operating procedures.
  • Drives continuous improvement and cost reduction through improvement projects.
  • Supports capital planning, employing the TSMD new equipment stage-gate process. Supports preparation of appropriation requests and equipment and process qualifications.
  • Develops and manages effective technical teams. Provides opportunities for training and career development. Performs training, reviews, goals, and development plans on time.
  • Understands and adheres to all safety requirements. Communicates identified risks to leadership and assists in resolution.
  • Completes all 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) standards to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Contributes to culture through alignment with company values and code of conduct. Maintains a positive attitude, displays enthusiasm for assigned tasks, and communicates effectively and professionally with team members.
  • Other related duties.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field, or equivalent.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Effective organization, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as an effective team member.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by process.
