Job description

Job Summary:

The IS Manager is responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and motivating the Data Services team within Global Enterprise Applications and Data to achieve a high level of performance and quality in delivering exceptional business value to users. This role requires a handson technical manager who actively engages in the design, implementation, and support of data platforms. The IS Manager is expected to lead and manage the support new and existing capabilities, including Data Lake, the Data Warehouse, and other integrated solutions and services with direct technical involvement to ensure sound design, operational stability, and scalability to meet the current and future needs of the business.  This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of efforts (projects, product backlogs, etc.), using Scaled Agile, in a fast-paced environment that may cross multiple operating companies and support organizations. They will be also responsible for planning, organizing, and managing Data Operations to ensure stable delivery of IS services, both on-premises and in the cloud. This role ensures high performance and quality in delivering stable, reliable, and innovative data platform services to business users. The IS Manager will leverage AI and machine learning techniques to enhance data-driven decision-making, optimize processes, and drive innovation across the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as technology owner, with direct handson accountability, for implementation and maintenance of products/services within Data Services products, platforms, and solutions, partnering with Product Owners and Business Sponsors while remaining actively involved in technical decisionmaking and execution.
  • Manages deliverables, risks, status, and quality elements throughout the lifecycle for work efforts; validates operational readiness for production launches
  • Leads production support, database administration, and data platform maintenance teams to ensure stable, reliable, and secure data operations, serving as a technical escalation point and actively participating in complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Measures progress toward goals and effectively communicates progress to appropriate stakeholders
  • Establishes direction and clear sense of meaning to inspire teams to create their own connection and passion to the business goals
  • Drives team members to leverage or develop well-defined practices and processes that aid in increasing productivity and minimizing waste
  • Ensures work is delivered on time, within budget, adhering to high-quality standards and meeting customer expectations
  • Provides transparency in execution and monitoring within delivery plans
  • Ensures timely and appropriate escalation of delivery issues 
  • Evaluates conceptual aspects of technical designs of applications, systems, and solutions through handson review and technical guidance, ensuring sound decisions and investments are made in accordance with application architecture governance policies and standard
  • Assists the delivery manager in implementing the best practices as defined within the Portfolio Management Office (PMO), Agile CoE and SDLC standards and champions ongoing process improvement initiatives
  • Anticipates and identifies tasks required to support change processing including performing change impact analysis, assigning tasks to project team members, verbally communicating complex issues, verifying that tasks are completed, and communicating implementation status
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and overall service delivery performance
  • Oversees incident, problem, and change management processes, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis
  • Coordinates database and platform upgrades, patching, backups, and recovery procedures, with direct technical oversight and validation of implementation and operational readiness
  • Provides regular reporting on service metrics, incidents, and platform health

Supervisory or Management Responsibility:

  • Management responsibility for the Data Services teams, including hiring, leadership, development, and accountability for performance.
  • Coach others in their development as a leader and/or a more complex problem solver, and focus on helping others formulate their development agenda
  • Assists in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments, removing roadblocks to their work through both leadership and direct technical contribution when required.; leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring team members
  • Promotes empowerment of the team, ensures that each team member is fully engaged in the project and makes a meaningful contribution, and encourages a sustainable pace with high levels of quality for the team
  • Communicates and engages with highly technical knowledge workers.  Able to challenge team thought processes to drive them to better solutions.
  • Establishes operational/team objectives and goals.

Budget Responsibility:

  • Contributes to the development of departmental budgets and actively manages budget to plan
  • Shares fiscal responsibility for the organization's technology investments and future planning of the organization's spend
  • Monitors and reports monthly cloud usage and spend

Minimum Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of Information Technology experience
  • Experience with Data, Data Management and/or Data Analytics and modern cloud/on-prem data platforms
  • 3-4 Years of recent, handson experience with Snowflake, Matillion, Qlik, Informatica, or equivalent modern cloud data warehouse + ETL/ELT tools, including design, build, and production support responsibilities.
  • Experience with Python and scripting for automation, demonstrated through handson development of scripts or utilities supporting data platforms or operations.
  • Experience working in an offshore/onshore collaborative environment
  • Agile (SAFe) experience
  • Experience with modern data architecture (e.g. data lakes, cloud platform AWS/GCP/Azure)
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and incident/change management
  • Strong understanding of security, backup/recovery, and data governance practices
  • Solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools: MS Office and VersionOne

Salary Range:

  • $131,864.00 - $197,796.00
  • This position is bonus eligible
  • Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
