Position Summary
House Supervisor is a management position with shift responsibility for directing and coordinating patient
placement and nurse staffing throughout LBMC. The House Supervisor directs and when necessary triages admissions and transfers and makes the final decision regarding clinical unit for patient assignment. The position responds to all customer requests to include patients, families, physicians, and staff in both a collaborative and direct way. Unusual and unplanned patient and staff problems are referred to the House Supervisor for resolution and if necessary referral to executive management and/or Risk Management. Significant events are evaluated by debriefing involved customers and staff, evaluating data, identifying immediate interventions, and consulting with Director or Executive Nurse on call as needed. The House Supervisor responds on the behalf of executive nursing and/or executive management in their absence. The incumbent responds to all hospital emergency codes. During Code Triages acts as the Chief Nursing Officer and Incident Commander until relieved by assigned nurse administrator or hospital administrator. The House Supervisor initiates emergency policies and procedures involving Emergency Department saturation and either no patient beds or no nurse staff to accommodate patient admissions within the medical center.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
• Patient flow within the medical center as well as room assignments for all admissions and transfers.
When agreement is not reached regarding unit assignment, House Supervisor makes the final decision
based on ATD guidelines, physician order, and own knowledge and experience.
• Directs nurse staffing for the hospital as well as obtaining supplemental agency nursing staff.
• LBMC House Supervisor acts as the immediate supervisor for on duty Central Staffing Office staff as
well as all Float Unit Staff.
• Responds to all hospital emergencies. Initiates Codes such as Code Triage, when necessary. During
Code Triages acts as the Chief Nursing Office and Incident Commander, until relieved by assigned
disaster officers.
• Responds to all customer requests including physicians, patients, families, support service staff, and
managers.
• Acts on behalf of nursing and hospital administrative staff in their absence. Contacts administrators on
call as necessary.
• Works in collaboration with medical center directors to implement or enforce medical center values, policies and procedures.
• Responsible for patients receiving the appropriate medical care by assuring patients are triaged and assigned to the right level of care/unit.
• Implements emergency policies when there are no beds and/or no nurses and the Emergency Department is saturated or closed to trauma.
• Under the direction of Director, assumes added responsibilities such as, but not limited to:
1. Staff coaching and counseling
2. Participation in CAT process and Quality Improvement activities.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
5 years of active nursing practice in acute care
2 years nursing management preferred
Prior nursing leadership required
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Current California RN License required
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Required; If a candidate has an MSN, BSN is not required
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required
