Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Associate Director of Development - Medicine.
In this role, the successful candidate plays an important role within the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs with the guidance of Senior/Campaign Directors who are responsible for creating and implementing strategies to attract funding for NYU Langone Health. This position will have their own portfolio focused on the $50K+ level working towards an annual goal of $3M to $5M (contingent upon portfolio & experience level), with a target of closing 40+ gifts at the $50k+ level.
The ideal candidate will be committed to NYULHs mission and values, will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a desire for regular face-to-face prospect and physician/staff interaction. They will be highly energetic and resilient in the face of challenges that come with academic medical fundraising.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages portfolio of prospects who have capacity to give at $50K+. 
  • Works with Senior/Campaign Directors, faculty and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects with wealth capacity.
  • Documents all development activity related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and reporting/stewardship using the TRAX database. 
  • Coordinates prospect research with the Prospect Research Management and Strategy team to identify new major donor prospects from the patient database and other sources.
  • Works strategically and collaboratively with colleagues across the office within the teams of Major Gifts, Gift Planning, Donor Experience/Events, Alumni, Stewardship, Communications, Foundation Relations, Community Partnerships, Direct Response, Prospect Research and Development Administration, to advance gift strategy and conversations. 
  • Assists with the development of event opportunities for cultivating and stewarding major donors and identifying new prospects. Develops event materials and presentations when appropriate.
  • Researches and writes briefings to prepare Medical Center faculty and executive management to ensure effective meetings with major donors.
  • Develops working knowledge of the Medical Centers and Departments goals, priorities and programs to help ensure successful fundraising.
  • Liaises with the Development Communications team on the development of materials highlighting programs.
  • Prepares letters of inquiry and proposals to prospects and donors on behalf of NYU Langone faculty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree required
5-8+ years of relevant experience in major gifts including experience in raising $50,000+ gifts
Experience in the successful management, engagement, and expansion of fundraising leadership boards
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
High level of energy and creativity in order to introduce and champion new ideas and secure transformational philanthropy
Self-motivated, outgoing and results oriented
Familiarity with software applications, including standard Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), with the ability to adapt and learn as these tools evolve
Strong writing and editing skills
The presence, cultural sensitivity, and communication skills necessary to be an effective representative of NYU Langone Health and a liaison to the donor base
Knowledge of software applications, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Development database experience
Operates well in a fast paced environment
Works strategically, collaboratively, respectfully, and professionally with colleagues across all divisions and teams within the department.
Communicates clearly, shares, listens and recognizes others contributions
