Accounting Assistant Manager

Location: Central Ohio Area (On-Site)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant Manager to support and lead key accounting and financial operations within a growing manufacturing environment. This role will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, cost accounting, ERP systems, compliance, process improvement initiatives, and team development.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, manufacturing accounting experience, advanced analytical skills, and a continuous improvement mindset. This position offers the opportunity to partner closely with operations leadership and play a critical role in driving financial accuracy and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

  • Support standard costing and manufacturing cost accounting activities.
  • Analyze labor, overhead, material, and production variances.
  • Review inventory transactions and ensure inventory valuation accuracy.
  • Monitor manufacturing financial performance metrics.
  • Support physical inventory counts and cycle count reconciliation.
  • Analyze scrap, rework, downtime, and operational efficiency impacts.
  • Assist with cost roll updates and Bill of Material (BOM) validation.
  • Partner with production leadership to improve inventory accuracy and cost performance.

ERP Systems & Process Optimization

  • Support administration and optimization of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365).
  • Ensure accurate financial transaction processing and data integrity.
  • Assist users with accounting, inventory, and reporting functions within D365.
  • Participate in ERP implementations, upgrades, testing, and enhancement projects.
  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards to improve business visibility.
  • Collaborate with IT and cross-functional teams on system improvements.
  • Troubleshoot financial system and ERP-related issues.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Support development and mentoring of accounting team members.
  • Create and maintain accounting procedures and SOP documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvement and automation opportunities.
  • Participate in strategic projects and financial analysis initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Purchasing, Production Control, HR, and Plant Leadership teams.

Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop KPI reporting and performance dashboards.
  • Perform large dataset analysis and financial modeling.
  • Create reports utilizing:
  • Pivot Tables
  • XLOOKUP / INDEX-MATCH
  • Power Query
  • Power Pivot
  • Advanced Excel Formulas
  • Power BI
  • Utilize data validation and analytics techniques to support decision-making.
  • SQL knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience.
