Accounting Supervisor

Location: Hybrid in Muskegon, MI
Reports To: Director of Finance

Accounting Supervisor Position Summary

The Accounting Supervisor oversees accounting operations for the centralized accounting office. This role supervises staff, supports audits, monitors financial systems and grants, and identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes. The position requires independent judgment, strong leadership, and expertise in governmental accounting.

Key Responsibilities for Accounting Supervisor
  • Supervise and lead professional, technical, and clerical accounting staff
  • Oversee countywide accounting operations and financial systems
  • Monitor and ensure compliance for grants and financial reporting
  • Assist auditors and support audit examinations
  • Evaluate and improve accounting processes and internal controls
  • Apply governmental accounting standards with professionalism and independence
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications for Accounting Supervisor
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
  • 4+ years of full-time accounting experience, some being governmental
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or lead experience
  • Strong proficiency with spreadsheet and financial systems
