Job description

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is a key member of the financial operations of Print Creative Alliance which is the trade association for commercial printers, graphic arts and other allied industries operating in the 13 western states.  Effectively, the Alliance is a 45-person professional services firm and includes 8 business entities under its umbrella including scholarship funds, multiple employer retirement and health/welfare trusts, insurance agencies and the trade association.  As such, this is a complex organization requiring several audits, tax returns and regulatory reporting.  

The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Vice President, Finance & Administration and assists in overseeing all accounting functions.  In particular, this position will assist the Vice President manage a staff of 3 but will have primary responsibility for general ledger accounting, with secondary responsibility for accounts payable and accounts receivable (including billing and collection).  The Accounting Manager will assist the VP and CEO to comply with all reporting requirements. The ideal candidate is very hands-on and is comfortable multi-tasking and creatively working with several operating systems.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Prepare and present monthly and annual financial reports to the VP Finance and CEO.
  • Manage general ledger functions.
  • Assist VP Finance coordinate and lead the annual audit and tax filing processes with external partners.

Project & Operational Accounting

  • Oversee project-based accounting.
  • Manage budgets and provide variance analysis as appropriate.

Treasury & Compliance

  • Oversee bank reconciliations.
  • Assist VP Finance to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Provide another mentor to any junior accounting staff or administrative support.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes or redesign for efficiency.
  • Support the VP Finance and CEO in strategic planning, including the development of the annual operating budget.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification a plus.
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a professional services environment (e.g., legal, consulting, etc.).  Experience in the not-for-profit organizations and/or insurance agencies a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, modeling).  Experience with Sage, Membee, and/or EPIC preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Must be a team player with exceptional attention to detail, strong ethical standards, and the ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
