What is an analytics manager?

An analytics manager translates raw data into insights that a business can use. Usually leading a team of analysts, your job duties include developing data analysis strategies, tracking and reporting on performance, implementing tools and solutions, and overseeing all analytics operations. You must stay up-to-date on current industry trends. Strong communication and analytical skills are required. Other qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in statistics, data management, or information technology and proven career experience in market research, statistical modelings, or project management.

How does an analytics manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business insights?

Analytics Managers frequently work alongside teams such as marketing, product development, finance, and operations to translate data into actionable business strategies. They facilitate meetings to understand stakeholder goals, guide data collection efforts, and present findings in a way that's accessible to non-technical audiences. This cross-functional collaboration ensures that insights are aligned with business objectives and that projects are implemented effectively. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an analytics manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Analytics Manager, you need strong analytical skills, data interpretation expertise, leadership experience, and typically a degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with analytics platforms (such as Tableau, Power BI), programming languages (like SQL, Python, or R), and data management systems is essential, along with relevant certifications such as Google Analytics or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP). Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies. These competencies ensure data-driven decision-making, effective team leadership, and impactful business outcomes.

Job description

General Description

CANOPS is seeking a Director of Data Analytics to set the vision and strategic direction for its data analytics program and lead the team responsible for delivering on it. Reporting to executive leadership, this role owns the analytics roadmap end-to-end — from defining priorities and strategy to overseeing the hands-on delivery of Power BI reporting and analytics solutions that support Career Academy of South Bend. The ideal candidate combines strong strategic and project management experience with a deep understanding of data analytics, and is equally comfortable setting direction and driving day-to-day execution with their team.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in data analytics or business analysis, including demonstrated experience setting strategy and direction for an analytics function, with significant project management experience (PMP or equivalent preferred).

  • Strong hands-on experience with data analytics tools, particularly Power BI and Azure SQL.

  • Track record of defining and executing a multi-year analytics vision or roadmap, not just managing individual projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and supervise staff or vendors.

  • Proven skill in requirements gathering, process analysis, and translating business needs into technical solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting strategy and results to executive leadership and boards.

  • Experience in education, K-12 data systems (e.g., PowerSchool), or nonprofit/charter school environments is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the strategic vision and roadmap for CANOPS' data analytics program, aligning priorities with organizational goals and executive leadership.

  • Lead and supervise CANOPS' data analytics projects end-to-end — scoping, planning, resourcing, and delivery — for Power BI reporting.

  • Gather and translate business requirements from school leadership and stakeholders into clear technical specifications and analytics deliverables.

  • Analyze current systems and data workflows (student, financial and enrollment data) to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.

  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets; track progress and proactively resolve risks or blockers.

  • Supervise and mentor analytics staff/contractors, coordinating priorities across student performance, enrollment, and financial reporting workstreams.

  • Drive weekly project meetings, leveraging project management software to track action items, milestones, and deliverables across the team.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between technical teams and organizational leadership, communicating project status and strategic recommendations.

  • Establish and maintain documentation, data governance standards, and QA processes for analytics deliverables.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to lead and shape one of Indiana's most innovative public charter schools.

  • Executive leadership role within a collaborative network of schools.

  • Partnership with a highly skilled Central Office team dedicated to supporting campus success.

  • Professional growth through leadership development and innovation.

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on students, staff, families, and the future of education.

Equal Employment Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
