DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • HYBRID opportunity - Mostly remote, but requires onsite time at the UW Tower as needed

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The mission of UW Medicine ITS Analytics is that UW Medicine can easily generate and use trusted data to improve the health of the public via actionable information. The guiding principles are 1) Partnership and centralized governance are imperative to enable systemness, 2) Accountabilty for trusted data, transparent prioritization, service reliability, self-service enablement, and stakeholder satisfaction, and 3) Commitment to customer satisfaction and ease of use (defined as efficient, transparent, timely, cost effective, easy).
The Director of Analytics provides enterprise leadership for UW Medicine's Analytics operations, data products, cloud analytics platforms, and AI-ready data ecosystem. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, this role translates data and analytics strategy into reliable operational execution, ensuring that UW Medicine has trusted, governed, secure, and scalable data capabilities to support clinical care, operations, finance, quality, research, education, and executive decision-making. The Director leads the modernization of analytics from traditional reporting and dashboards toward governed self-service, reusable data products, predictive and prescriptive analytics, and responsible AI enablement.
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
  • Trusted data foundation - quality, governance, metadata, lineage, security, compliance
  • Modern analytics delivery - data products, dashboards, semantic layers, self-service
  • AI readiness - predictive analytics, machine learning support, responsible AI governance
  • Operational excellence - intake, prioritization, SLAs, customer satisfaction, staff leadership, budget, vendor management

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Analytics focused discipline (Computer Science, Biostatistics, Biomedical Information, Healthcare Information, Business Management) or a BS in another area with at least 10+ years of experience equivalent to a BS in an analytics focused discipline or equivalent education and/or experience
  • 10+ years of experience to include:
    • Strategic and operational oversight for enterprise-wide analytics experience
    • 6+ years' experience leading and managing technology and/or business professionals
    • 5+ years' experience managing customer and vendor relationships
    • Demonstrated management and leadership capabilities with proven ability to influence in matrix environment
    • Demonstrated ability leading analytics modernization in a complex, regulated environment
    • Proven ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and provide guidance and leadership to professional personnel
    • Proven ability to build partnerships across clinical, operational, financial, research, compliance, security, and technology stakeholders
