Job description

Job Title: Risk Systems Analyst

Overview

At German American Bank, we believe protecting our customers is just as important as serving them. As a Risk Systems Analyst, youโ€™ll help supports the design, monitoring, optimization, and governance of AML and fraud detection systems used to identify, investigate, and prevent suspicious activity across all banking channels. This role is part of the Risk Management team and reports through the Deputy Compliance Officer. Youโ€™ll work closely with Fraud Operations, Anti-money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), Compliance, Information Technology, Application Support, Deposit Services, Money Desk, Contact Center, Line of Business leaders and the Business Transformation Office to strengthen fraud controls, streamline processes for fraud detection and recovery, improve detection accuracy, reduce financial losses, and protect customers.

What Youโ€™ll Do: Day in the Life -

Youโ€™ll spend your day monitoring fraud and AML/CFT detection systems, analyzing transaction patterns and alert activity, and identifying opportunities to improve how we detect and respond to risk. One moment you may be reviewing trends in debit card, ACH, wire, or online banking activity; the next, you could be partnering with Technology or Application Support to troubleshoot a system issue, fine-tune detection rules, or validate a system enhancement. Youโ€™ll help develop reports and dashboards, document system changes, and provide analysis that supports audits, regulatory reviews, and ongoing risk management efforts.

Youโ€™ll also stay on top of emerging fraud schemes, payment-channel risks, and regulatory changes, using those insights to recommend improvements to fraud detection strategies and system capabilities. Collaboration is a big part of this role/Youโ€™ll partner with teams across the bank to strengthen fraud prevention while also working with vendors on system upgrades, release testing, access reviews, data quality validation, and business continuity planning. As part of maintaining effective monitoring systems, youโ€™ll coordinate model validation activities, including documentation, data validation, control reviews, issue tracking, and remediation follow-up. What it Takes:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in business, finance, accounting, information systems, data analytics, criminal justice, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2โ€“4 years of experience in banking, fraud operations, financial crimes, risk management, systems analysis, payment operations, or a related financial services function.
  • Working knowledge of AML/CFT and fraud detection systems, transaction monitoring tools, case management platforms, digital banking systems, core banking systems, or related financial technology applications.
  • Understanding of common banking fraud typologies, including card fraud, ACH fraud, wire fraud, check fraud, account takeover, identity theft, deposit fraud, and online/mobile banking fraud.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret transaction data, system outputs, alert trends, operational metrics, and exception reporting to identify risks and recommend improvements.
  • Experience supporting system configuration, business requirements, testing, issue resolution, process documentation, or vendor/application support activities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting tools; ability to create, validate, and explain reports, dashboards, and trend analyses for operational and management review.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Fraud Operations, Information Technology, Compliance, Risk, Audit, vendors, and line-of-business partners.
  • Knowledge of bank regulatory expectations, internal controls, audit standards, information security practices, and customer privacy/confidentiality requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, problem-solving ability, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive fraud prevention environment.
