Academic Mentor Department: Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS)

Hours per Week: 8-12 hours per week Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday (9am-5pm)
Estimated Pay: $8.00 - $10.00 per hour
Start Date: August 19, 2026
End Date: May 5, 2027
Job Overview: The Academic Mentor supports student-athletes in developing essential academic skills, including organization, time management, and goal setting. Through structured, one-on-one mentoring sessions, Academic Mentors guide students in balancing academic and athletic responsibilities while promoting accountability, independence, and overall academic success.
This role is a school year position with performance evaluations at the end of each semester to continue employment.
We do NOT hire current student-athletes
Job Duties:
1. Mentoring Sessions and Student Support
โ€ข Conduct scheduled one-on-one mentoring sessions with student-athletes
โ€ข Guide students in developing organization systems (task sheets, planners, digital calendars)
โ€ข Assist in building time management, goal setting, and problem-solving skills
โ€ข Help students break down assignments and lead progress checks to track academic success
โ€ข Encourage accountability, proactive planning, and independent learning habits
2. Reporting
โ€ข Complete session reports after each meeting in Teamworks Academics
โ€ข Document assignments, student progress, engagement, and any concerns in reports
โ€ข Communicate attendance issues or student challenges with SAAS supervisor
3. Trainings and Development
โ€ข Attend required pre-semester mentor training
โ€ข Participate in scheduled one-on-one meetings with the supervisor throughout the semester
4. Professionalism and Program Expectations
โ€ข Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance for all scheduled sessions
โ€ข Uphold confidentiality and professional boundaries
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Must be an active CCU Student
โ€ข Minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA
โ€ข Junior level or higher
โ€ข Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
โ€ข Ability to work consistently and reliably with scheduled commitments
โ€ข Ability to maintain academic & professional integrity and confidentiality
Preferred:
โ€ข Experience working with peers in tutoring, mentoring, or leadership roles
โ€ข Interest in education, student development, or academic support services
