Job Summary:
Primary responsibility is to provide strong, prioritized patient care in a variety of urgent or emergent situations while maintaining a global perspective of the department.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Current Vermont RN license in good standing. Two-three years’ experience in Emergency Nursing. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required. CEN certification to be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Other Requirements: Computer skills and familiarity with using an electronic medical record essential. Excellent customer services skills. Strong team player and ability to function autonomously
Requirements:Essential Functions Of The Position:
- Performs triage using the Emergency Severity Index, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements to determine the degree of urgency for treatment.
- Maintains a strong understanding of the Incident Command Structure and can operate fluidly
- within it, maintaining patient and facility safety during an internal or external crisis.
- Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient plans of care and treatment.
- Manages basic life support needs, based upon GCFHH nursing standards and protocol.
- Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records
- electronic displays including but not limited to; Cardiac monitoring, EKG monitoring, respiratory ventilators, non-invasive positive pressure machines and high flow nasal cannula.
- Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse
- symptomatology within the GCFHH nursing standing orders in addition to notifying the Provider.
- Records patients’ vital signs and all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
- Works directly under Providers, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments
- Prepares and administers medications and records medication administration appropriately, including scanning patient identification and medications.
- Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
- Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.
- Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.
- Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
- Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
