Job Description


Job purpose:

Are you passionate about helping others on their road to recovery and raising awareness about recovery in your community? If so then we have the job for you! Recovery Action Network of Michigan is seeking a peer recovery coach to carry out our mission of empowering individuals and families affected by addiction by providing a safe and supportive community where they can find hope, inspiration, resources and achieve long-term recovery. This position offers a flexible work schedule, opportunities for professional development and advancement, and performance-based salary increases.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide peer support services to individuals within the community to introduce recovery concepts, offer encouragement, share personal experiences, expand recovery capital, and reduce barriers to long-term recovery.
  • Share community resources that support recovery and make resources readily available to the community, including but not limited to twelve-step and other mutual aid programs, varying levels of SUD treatment, healthcare, housing, education, and employment resources and support.
  • Documents direct services as well as collateral contacts within RAN-MI database.
  • Keep accurate and up to date documentation of client services and recovery activities as required by RAN-MI and funders.
  • Facilitate peer-led support groups via zoom (telehealth) and in person in various locations throughout the community.
  • Facilitate mutual aid support groups that encompass multiple pathways to recovery, including but not limited to MAT support, SMART recovery, twelve-step (AA/NA), and All-Recovery.
  • Contribute to and assist with social media content in relation to ongoing community events, recovery activities, support groups, and content to promote and enhance recovery.
  • Ability to be creative and assist with organizing community events and activities that promote recovery.
  • Participate in ongoing training, education, and other items as required.
  • Provide education about SUD and recovery in public forums, to professional collaborators, and to other audiences.
  • Abide by HIPPA, Federal Confidentiality Laws, Licensing Regulations, and any additional regulations set forth by RAN-MI/partnering agency procedures.
  • Establish and maintain liaison relationships with community agencies and businesses to promote recovery support within the community.
  • Supports the mission of RAN-MI with integrity and acts as an ambassador for the agency and the recovery community.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Recovery Oriented Systems of Care, principles of trauma informed care, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and multiple pathways of recovery in all professional relationships.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Have Certified Peer Recovery Coach Certification (CPRC) with Michigan Department Health and Human Services (MDHHS) or equivalent.
  • Be in recovery from a substance use disorder (SUD) for at least 24 (twenty-four) months.
  • Ability to successfully pass agency required background checks, drug tests and other employment related screenings.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle due to the essential functions of the role.
  • Ability to adjust hours of work and travel based on the community needs, including evenings and weekends, where flexibility to drive self to locations on short notice to meet clients and support their needs is required.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to complete manual tasks involving dexterity to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies up to 25 lbs. for administrative tasks, community events and recovery activities.
