POSITION SUMMARY:

Peer Recovery Coach's role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Peer Recovery Coach will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Coach must demonstrate an ability to share personal experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. Peer Recovery Coach must have an understanding of and respect for each individual's unique path to recovery. Peer Recovery Coach will have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community. Target population will be working with Behavioral Health clients. Responsibilities may include providing support and guidance in obtaining/maintaining recovery, providing transportation and coordinating social and/or cultural events. The Peer Recovery Coach will assist clients in supportive programs and other resources that may benefit and enhance their life in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
  2. Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interest, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
  3. Coach recovering person to develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for "getting the life they want".
  4. Provide recovery education to clients for every phase of the recovery journey.
  5. Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnerships with others in the agency.
  6. Maintain all records with accurate and timely documentation in chart per agency guidelines.
  7. Participate in the preparation of public awareness, coordinating trainings, provide support, education and transportation.
  8. Adhere to the Federal Register of Department of Health and Human Services 42 CFR part 2, the confidentiality of alcohol and drug abuse patient records.
  9. Organize and/or assist in providing social/community activities.
  10. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  11. As position evolves and knowledge increases, visit community resources with clients to assist them in becoming familiar with potential opportunities.
  12. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position's essential functions.
  13. Must attend any and all mandatory trainings designated by your Department Director and/or Health Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee must occasionally bend, reach, squat, or stoop to access objects with lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma/G.E.D. and three letters of recommendation required.
  2. Must have worked within the last three years with at least 12 months total of successful work experience.
  3. Minimum of two years sobriety required.
  4. Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed, required.
  5. Must be reliable.
  6. Must be able to work independently, organize multiple tasks, and perform quality work in an efficient manner.
  7. Must be pleasant, congenial and able to work cooperatively with staff, clients and members of the community.
  8. A valid driver's license with good driving record required.
  9. Must complete a criminal, central registry and driver's license background clearance.
  10. Must be able to maintain composure and use good judgment during crisis situations.
  11. Must have excellent communication skills.
  12. Must be able to travel, when required.
  13. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.
