JOB DESCRIPTIONĀ 

JOB TITLE: Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) - CRU Updated:Ā 1/2026Ā 

DIVISION: Residential Services Ā 

REPORTS TO: CRU Supervisor Ā 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Ā 

WORK HOURS: 40Ā HoursĀ PerĀ Week (Varies) Ā 

NATURE OF WORK:Ā TheĀ CRUĀ PRSS serves as a personal guide, mentor, role model, and navigator to provide the recovery resources necessary for Valley’s consumers. The PRSS assistsĀ inĀ developmentĀ andĀ maintenance ofĀ the consumers individual recovery wellness plan while supporting their recovery and acting as a liaison and advocate providing access toĀ professional and community recovery resources. Working with consumers during all phases of the crisis intervention and recovery process, the CRU PRSS plays a vital role in consumer recovery. This includes documentation, timely completion of tasks, continuous support, and providing linkage and referral to other services for ongoing treatment.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Ā 

  • Orient the resident to the program, primarily to the schedule, the rules, the living environment, and program expectations of the resident.Ā 

  • Monitor residents’ behavior and activities and facilitate appropriate interventions when needed, recording this clearly and concisely according to program procedure.Ā 

  • Coordinate the oversight of the resident’s chores, purchase needed supplies, and note all needed house repairs.Ā 

  • Work actively with CRU clientsĀ in the recovery process.Ā 

  • Provide mentoring and modeling through life experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems.Ā 

  • ProvideĀ supportiveĀ group andĀ individualĀ counseling in accordance with the treatment schedule.Ā Ā 

  • Assist withĀ authorization processes for continuity of care and service delivery.Ā Ā 

  • Assist management in covering unfilled shifts as needed and available.Ā 

  • Link clients to available resources,Ā including but not limited to,Ā continuing education/professionalĀ development, safe housing, recovery supports, self-help groups, medical/health facilities, and substance abuse and/or mental health services.Ā 

  • Serve as a liaison to the client's formal and informal supports,Ā including but not limited to,Ā their referral source, family members, client's sponsor, treatment provider, and faith-based support.Ā 

  • Maintain working relationships with staff of Valley's programs and other agency or institutions for referral resources for clients.Ā 

  • Receive on-going supervision and trainingĀ toĀ provide Peer Recovery Support Specialist services to the highest degree and the benefit of the community and individuals served.Ā Ā 

  • Assist in training and future supervision of PRSS staff.Ā Ā 

  • Prepare and maintain all required documentation in accordance withĀ Valley &Ā Medicaid guidelines including but not limited to Supportive Group and Individual progress notes.Ā 

  • Assist consumers in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, or other problems.Ā 

  • Provide outreach and early intervention to individuals in the early onset/stage of recovery or remission as well as those experiencing symptoms of relapse.Ā 

  • Provide support by assisting consumers in identifying and resolving problems and making effective use of resources.Ā 

  • Adhere to Valley's Standards of Conduct, Safety,Ā and Compliance.Ā 

  • Serve on committees as assigned.Ā 

  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings as required.Ā 

  • Provide mentoring to new staff.Ā 

  • Provide training to staff on current procedures, policy,Ā state,Ā and federal regulations.Ā 

  • Provide documentation training.Ā 

  • Provide training in working with clients in their role as a PRSS, such as but not limited to, healthy boundaries, professional outreach and linkage with other agencies and service both in house and in the community.Ā 

  • Transportation of clients to appointments/activities in the community using a company vehicle.Ā 

  • Other duties as assigned.Ā 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Ā 

  • Ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position as outlined below.Ā 

  • PossessĀ and maintainĀ current PRSS Certification.Ā 

  • High SchoolĀ diploma or equivalent.Ā 

  • Knowledge of recovery treatment resources, includingĀ the 12-step recovery processĀ andĀ fellowships.Ā 

  • Knowledge of the medical model of addiction treatment, including but not limited to symptoms, stages of the disease, process of recovery, and relapse prevention.Ā 

  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to legally transport consumers.Ā 

  • Ability to always comply with Valley’sĀ standards ofĀ performance.Ā 

  • Ability to comply with Valley’s and division/departmental safety procedures.Ā 

  • CPR/First Aid certificate or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.Ā 

  • Ability to competently read, write, understand, and speak the English language.Ā 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ā 

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist.Ā 

  • Previous experience in Behavioral Health field withĀ addiction andĀ substance use disorders.Ā 

  • Knowledge of the disease of addiction,Ā substance use disorders, and early recovery issues.Ā 

  • Ability to recognize signs & symptoms of withdrawal from various drugs.Ā
