Position: Concept Art Director
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)
  • In-person: Mondays and Thursdays at our Los Angeles office
  • Remote: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
About the Role
Are you a talented, motivated, and experienced Art Director ready to lead our team of concept artists to new heights? We're seeking a visionary who can provide clear, concise direction to ensure all assets are polished to the highest quality, captivating both our Creative Director and clients with their artistic vision.

The ideal candidate will possess strong creative and visual aesthetics, exceptional design skills, and proven leadership experience. You should effectively direct other artists and partner studios/vendors while also producing final artwork yourself.

In addition to technical prowess, we value someone skilled in conducting research and creating mood boards to inform the artistic direction. We seek an individual adept at storytelling and presenting ideas in a compelling manner that resonates with our artistic teams and clients. Collaboration, organization, and accountability are paramount, with attention to detail and the ability to inspire and support teammates through every step of the creative process.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Director to provide strategic feedback and guidance to the concept art team, ensuring exemplary artwork that clarifies creative intent.
- Conduct research and create mood boards to inform artistic direction.
- Initiate meetings with clients, including directors and production designers, to kick start new projects and gather feedback on submitted work.
- Generate artwork across various specializations, including characters, environments, props, textures, lighting guides/color scripts, story concepts, consumer product designs, and brand marketing materials.
- Work effectively with all stakeholders to complete projects within timelines and budget parameters.
- Manage both internal and freelance concept artists to ensure the realization of the client's creative vision while upholding high-quality standards.
- Oversee the delivery of assigned projects, ensuring they meet or exceed expectations.
- Identify and implement best practices, workflows, and pipelines to elevate the quality of concept art.
- Provide support, guidance, and inspiration to meet overall goals and project deadlines.
- Mentor and cultivate the artistic and professional growth of team members.

Requirements
- Submission of a portfolio link is mandatory for consideration, showcasing elevated imagination and design, campaign concepts, and relevant creative endeavors.
- Possess 5+ years of experience in a Lead Artist or Art Director position delivering feature film, episodic, and/or AAA game-quality concept art.
- Demonstrate excellent ability to establish, communicate, and maintain artistic vision across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Showcase strong ideation skills indicating a deep understanding of visual arts in interactive mediums.
- Proficiency in industry-standard 2D graphics applications (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) is required.
- Display familiarity with essential 3D applications (e.g., Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, ZBrush).
- Preferred: Experience working with game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity) and design toolsets.
- Possess the ability to adapt to new ideas, processes, and business problems with ease and enthusiasm.
- Maintain a professional attitude and an openness to feedback that commands the respect of supervisors and colleagues.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and the ability to think strategically, conceptualize, and see ideas through to polished execution.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights/weekends.
