Assistant General Manager, Business Opportunities

LOCATION: Wild Horse Pass Corporate Center

COMPENSATION: $136,134 - $176,645 Annually, DOE

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, Full Time

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUPERVISORY: Yes

REPORTS TO: WHPDA General Manager

Summary:

The Assistant General Manager of Business Opportunities is a strategic leadership role responsible for managing WHPDA's existing businesses and identifying, evaluating, and capitalizing on new business opportunities that align with WHPDA's goals and objectives. This position will also provide direct oversight for WHPDA's business support functions, such as Facilities Management, Informational Technology, and Marketing.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management of the WHPDA self-managed businesses and provide leadership and guidance to the team directly responsible for each business.
  • Supervise WHPDA's Facilities Management, Information Technology, and Marketing Departments.
  • Manage the WHPDA third-party management agreements to ensure the third-party managers are adhering to their agreements.
  • Research, analyze, and monitor market trends, customer needs, and industry developments to identify potential business opportunities. These opportunities may include new markets, partnerships, acquisitions, product expansions, or innovative ventures.
  • Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, risk assessments, and financial analyses to evaluate the viability and potential impact of each identified opportunity and present findings to the executive team for informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other executives and department heads to align business opportunities with the overall corporate strategy and develop strategic plans to leverage identified opportunities and execute initiatives accordingly.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, potential partners, and industry leaders to contribute to WHPDA's growth.
  • Explore and lead the entry of WHPDA into new markets or industries, assessing market potential, competition, regulatory factors, and potential risks and develop market penetration strategies to ensure successful expansion.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, market disruptors, and industry innovations and recommend and lead initiatives that drive innovation within WHPDA to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of current businesses and implemented business opportunities.
  • Build and lead a team of professionals responsible for business development and opportunity evaluation and provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure team success.

  • Prepare an Annual Plan and budget for all businesses under the responsibility of the Assistant General Manager of Business Opportunities.
  • Prepare and provide regular reports to the General Manager and Board.
  • Represent WHPDA and the managed businesses at GRIC entity meetings, WHPDA and GRIC functions.
  • Serve as a contact person for the Community government departments, and works closely with governmental entities having jurisdiction to insure conformance with applicable laws, regulations, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the WHPDA General Manager.

Supervisor Responsibility:

Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes hiring, work allocation, training, problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; provides guidance and feedback for assigned staff.

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work will primarily be performed in an office environment.


  • Work will be performed both inside and outside on a regular basis, in most weather conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position.
  • Occasional local day travel, Local travel to managed businesses.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk extended period. The employee occasionally is required to bend, climb, stoop, lift, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Economics, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven ten (10) years' experience in a managerial or leadership role, preferably in business development, operations, or general management.
  • Valid AZ driver's license, provide a 39-month violation-free MVR report.
  • Obtain a Tribal operator license driving permit at the time of hire.
  • A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
  • Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business administration, Economics, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience with convenience stores, billboard displays, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, business development, and market analysis.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to conduct detailed financial analyses.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively across different teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in MS office and other relevant workplace tools.
  • Knowledge and experience working with the Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Community preferred.
