Job Description

Position Description: Seeking a full-time staff Media Relations & Social Media Manager, based out of our principal office in New York, New York.

This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications.

What you will do:

Active Media Relations Support: Pro-actively develop storylines, where you are able to see stories and storylines that are being developed, news angles that might be of interest to us, and consistent engagement with the media both on the U.S. and China side. The Media Relations & Social Media Manager must be able to engage with reporters and editors on an ongoing basis, pitching stories, generating story ideas and see where we can lend a voice to an existing – or created – storyline.

Social Media: Create, implement and execute against a full social media calendar that is built around organically created content, and maximize existing content such as news, events and program. Candidates should be familiar with planning all aspects of social media campaigns, podcasts, events promotion and other campaign event needs. Candidates should also be well versed in growing social media channels and fostering engagement strategies that showcase our growth – as well as tracking those results.

Event Support: Collaborate with the Events Team (where applicable) to help execute any news and media content. Help with content development, event support through social media, post-event follow-up and blog writing. Produce collateral material – anything where Media Relations/Social Media can take advantage of a moments in time. Candidate will be working closely with team members to develop and maintain all shared event planning, communications and management systems.

Project Management Support: Provide program budgets; draft, edit, and proofread documents and update the organizational database, website maintenance and updates, marketing materials, and social media measurement.

Key Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of current professional experience in the Media Relations/Social Media space.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to develop bylines, op-eds, press releases and internal memos.
  • Experience with specific social media tools including, but not limited to, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
  • Knowledge/experience in website management and graphic design – specifically WordPress – is a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital media tools and platforms, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills – written, verbal, and interpersonal.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Flexible and able to work on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, fluid, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work, set expectations, meet deadlines, multi-task, and produce consistent, quality work.
  • Keen sense of judgment and confidentiality and a desire to learn.
  • The ability to track, report and communicate progress on programs and tasks on an ongoing basis proactively.

Big Pluses:

  • Bachelors/Masters related to Asian American Studies, East Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, Business, International Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related fields.
  • Ability to speak and translate Mandarin.
