Assistant/Senior Assistant Director of Admissions

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Assistant/Senior Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Office of Admissions in identifying, expanding, attracting, and enrolling students from across the United States. The position manages a strategic recruitment plan, inclusive of being a primary traveler for the office, reviewing applicants and shepherding them through our selection committee process, establishing and maintaining relationships with schools and counselors, and representing Middlebury in professional organizations that support recruitment goals.
The Assistant/Senior Assistant Director acts as the Colleges representative for all aspects of the admissions operation both on and off-campus in his/her work.
This is considered a full-time salaried benefits eligible position. The salary range for the position is $58,900 $88,400 per year.
Requirements
Essential Functions: Represent the College at high school visits, college fairs, on and off-campus events and other recruiting activities.
Serve as the primary evaluator of applicants in specific geographic territories during the selection process, and as a member of the full admissions committee.
Represent the College to prospective students, high school counselors, parents, alumni and other groups.
Direct on-campus yield efforts: create and manage on-campus programming for admitted students; supervise Admissions staff and student workers when coordinating events.
Manage five or more recruitment territories.
Serve as liaison to two or more varsity athletic teams and collaborate with coaches to ensure compliance with NESCAC recruitment process.
Supervise student interns and monitor projects for junior admissions staff.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Dean or Director.
Education:
Bachelors degree required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Familiarity with a small liberal college is essential and with Middlebury College in particular is desired.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills required, as is a keen eye for specific detail.
- Computer familiarity, especially using Slate and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a teamwork setting.
- Ability to manage student workers and colleagues.
- Ability to spearhead projects from creation to completion, often in conjunction with colleagues from across campus.
- Light physical activity is often required: moving tables and chairs, carrying materials on the road, lifting small boxes.
- Ability to work in a wide variety of conditions and environments: schools, hotels, and from home.
- Extensive travel, sometimes in inclement weather, is required.
- Evening and weekend work is routine during busier seasons.
- Valid drivers license required.
Experience:
Three to five years of experience in a college admissions office or as a teacher or college counselor desired.
Physical Demands:
- Light physical activity is often required: moving tables and chairs, carrying materials on the road, lifting small boxes.
- Ability to work in a wide variety of conditions and environments: schools, hotels, and from home.
- Extensive travel, sometimes in inclement weather, is required.
