This position is based in Washington, DC, and will require working on-site in an office in DC five days each week and on weekends one to three times per year for large meetings or events. The successful candidate must live in the DC metropolitan area.

Position Overview:

In anticipation of LSC’s upcoming move to the International Square building in downtown DC in 2024, we are seeking a Space and Operations Manager. This pivotal new role requires a proactive, organized, and technologically adept individual to ensure optimal operational flow and a well-maintained office environment. Your leadership, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail will be essential in managing LSC’s operational needs and vendor relationships, and in creating a positive workspace experience. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers, Local 135.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Office Space Management: Act as the main contact for facilities-related communications with the landlord. Develop relationships with facility staff, assign office space efficiently, and manage a user-friendly space management app. Design office layouts for functionality and cost-effectiveness, and manage parking needs.
  • Budgeting, Purchasing, and Vendor Management for Space and Operations Needs: Participate in budgeting, adhere to purchasing protocols, and manage vendor contracts for space and operations needs. Ensure high-quality vendor performance and address service issues promptly.
  • Emergency Action Planning, Training and Execution: Update and maintain the Emergency Action Plan, lead the Emergency Action Committee, and ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures. Maintain a certified group of CPR/AED-trained staff.
  • Shipping and Inventory Management: Oversee shipping processes and manage furniture and computer inventory to ensure proper stock levels.
  • Process Automation and Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to automate tasks and reduce workloads. Assist and train staff in adopting new processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Operations and Space Management Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience in operations and space management or a combination of education and relevant experience totaling nine years. Relevant certifications are preferred.
  • Space Management Expertise: Demonstrated ability in space management and experience with space management software.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional multitasking ability with a strong focus on detail and organization.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, including negotiation skills to deal effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office and adept at integrating technology as a central component in space management, operations, and vendor management.
  • Innovation: Proven track record of identifying and implementing process improvements and automation.
  • Lifting and Moving: The role occasionally requires lifting and transporting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Candidates should be comfortable performing such tasks as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Emergency Planning: Experience in developing and executing emergency action plans, with a focus on maintaining safety and preparedness.
  • Inventory Management: Expertise in managing inventory processes, ensuring adequate supplies and efficient management systems.

LSC has a competitive market-based salary structure that establishes a specific salary range for this position. The salary range has eight steps.
