Summary

The Controls Engineer specializes in the troubleshooting and diagnosis of machines and their related controls.They must be able to understand the design, configuration and optimization of industrial processes to improve quality, reduce costs, improving sustainability and maximizing productivity. The Controls Engineer takes measurements and interprets data to troubleshoot problems in production, and to implement appropriate corrective actions. The position involves active communication with all stakeholders and the implementation of appropriate safety policies and regulations.

Job Description

  • Ability to edit PLC programs, repair and replace damaged and worn electrical components, including but not limited to; cards, capacitors, diodes, resistors, and cables, or identify components to rectify any issues the drives or motors may be experiencing.
  • Identify root cause problems in PLC controllers, electrical drive units, communications devices, and UPS.
  • Identify and create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and standard operating conditions (SOCs) for the manufacturing processes, and to communicate these to production employees through structured training plans.
  • Develops a deep scientific knowledge together with a practical understanding of the processes used during manufacturing operations, including the ability to identify the relationship between process parameters and product attributes.
  • Analyzes various aspects of the manufacturing process to find elements that can be improved.
  • Assesses processes, takes measurements, and interprets data.
  • Troubleshoots problems associated with the manufacturing process.
  • Evaluates processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety policies and regulations.
  • Optimizes process yield, productivity, and manufacturing cost through the implementation of continuous improvement.
  • Apply specialized knowledge of electricity, electrical systems, and controllers to maintain, repair, refurbish, or recommend replacement in order to maintain or increase production.
  • Stays up to date with current and future trends in processes and new wire products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a combination of technical education and relevant work history in electrical and control maintenance.
  • A general understanding of the scientific method and ability to problem solve electrical problems.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive manufacturing experience, preferably in a maintenance-related role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to consolidate data into concise, executive-ready presentations and reports.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in developing positive and constructive working relationships with employees in production and other support functions.
  • Familiarity with health and safety policies and regulations.
  • Certifications or keen understanding of the following:
  • LOGIX Programming, Ladder logic
  • Industrial Ethernet Networks
  • Ethernet and IP configurations
  • FANUC, ROCKWELL, Allen Bradley, SIEMENS drives
  • HMI
  • Power Distribution
  • Circuit design, Automation, Control Systems Design
  • Electrical repairs and testing
  • AC and DC circuit design and troubleshooting
  • Circuit and fault analysis
  • Proven experience with PLC and HMI, with Siemens preferred.
  • SCADA experience is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Be able to sit for long periods.
  • Able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Able to lift, push, or pull up to 15 lbs.
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the US.
